One of FSU's support staff members, Carlos Locklyn, is leaving for an on-field coaching role at Western Kentucky.
Carlos Locklyn leaving FSU football staff to coach RBs at Western Kentucky
Locklyn was part of the crew Mike Norvell brought in from Memphis to serve as director of high school relations, and he was really well-liked from everything I can tell. He was a former running back in college and briefly in the NFL, and he really seemed focused on helping the players and reinforcing Norvell's messages.
While you don't necessarily want to see people leave when they are liked, this is a great accomplishment for him personally -- four years ago, he was coaching high school football and never thought he would be a Division-I assistant in such a short period of time. But Norvell and Josh Storms gave him an opportunity, and here he is.
We don't yet know who Norvell will hire to fill this role, but it likely will be a quick move. Locklyn talked to Norvell at length before he took the job. I personally will be surprised if Norvell doesn't bring someone in with stronger ties to Florida and perhaps South Florida. That could only help as they try to strengthen their recruiting profile in the state, but we'll have to see. Either way, I'd expect a replacement to be named pretty quickly.
