I'll spending next week in Chicago. Staying at the EMC2 Hotel on Onterio St. My office is off Wacker. It looks like some good restaurants around my hotel. Any recs? Is it easy to take the train/L from the hotel or should I just stick with cabs.

Go to the downtown loop and go to Italian Village on 71 West Monroe Street. It's my favorite EYE-talian restaurant.

I'll be in Chicago Monday night. Staying at the LondonHouse at Wacker and Michigan. I've wanted to check our the Girl and The Goat (the restaurant, mind you), but haven't had the time.

If you're a fatty, Nutella just opened their own restaurant on Michigan.

London House rooftop bar should be great if the weather is nice.

Purple Pig is great. Love Tavern on Rush for a drink. Cheesy, but also usually hit up Signature room for a drink as well. Great views up there. Last time went to the terrace at Trump building. Has an amazing view right down the river and opens to Lake Michigan. Plus good food and great cocktails. Hard to mess up food in that city.

I can second the recs for the Purple Pig and the Girl and the Goat. Both were very, very good.

And, grab an Italian beef sandwich somewhere, but lean forward a ways while eating, lest you drop food on your shirt.

Roister - hip, casual option from Alinea's Grant Aschatz

Smyth and The Loyalist - on the lower level, The Loyalist is sort of an ala carte version of Smyth upstairs...same kitchen.

If you want 2 Star Michelin restaurants on short notice you might try Acadia or Oriole.

Sepia or Tru you'd likely be able to get into.

Also, once downtown, I prefer cabs or Uber.

Also, the French Market below Olgilvie Transportation could be good if you are looking for something quick.

Purple Pig
Hot Chocolate
Next- use Facebook for a same day
Blackbird
Roister
Girl and the goat- overrated
Eataly

Was up there last year on business. Our group of 10 or so hit up River Roast on the river at LaSalle and it was greatness. The manager offered up a pre-release (for their restaurant) pumpkin skin old fashioned that was amazing.

Isn't Chicago on fire? Someone said it's on fire and there's just like murders and carnage everywhere.

Or is that not true? The way you guys are talking it sounds like it's just full of people eating food and doing business deals, sometimes simultaneously while on rooftops with nice views.

I guess that's a good place to dodge the bullets.

It might as well be on fire. High of 90 in late September. I got all sweaty walking to my office this morning.

Steak 48 just opened in July. Same place as in Houston. Very good steak. Maybe the best in the city. Maple and Ash is up there as well. Le Colonial is a great French Vietnamese place on Rush. Probably one of my favorite places of all time in Chicago. Girl and Goat and Purple Pig both are decent but I don't crave to go back to either. Geno's or Pizano's for deep dish. Malnattis sucks. Due and Uno or inedible. Al'sbeefis better than Portillos in my mind.
Bella Notte at 1348 W Grand is amazing. Best Italian in the city in my mind.

Yep. My hotel is in the middle of Northwestern Medical. Lots of younger people. Real cool hotel. I'm going to try to make it to the Navy Pier for a run this evening when it cools down.

Stayed at that hotel last weekend. It's VERY cool. Navy Pier is a short walk. We did it in dress clothes. You might be able to walk to the office, depending on where on Wacker it is. You won't want to use the El down there. Cab or Uber it.

Recommend a trip through Eataly at least once. It's got really cool food and great beer and wine.

Pizza is all about your preferences. I like Malnati's and Giordano's. Uno/Deu are not on my favorites list.

Get an Italian Beef while you're in town. Al's or Portillo's, depending on what you find close by.

Sunny Side Up is a few blocks northwest. Great breakfast.

As for restaurants, I just hit Yelp and go by what's got great ratings. There's TONS of good places to eat within walking distance, let alone cab/Uber distance.

Gibson's Steakhouse on Rush Street. Went to Chicago back in May and someone recommended this place and I'm glad we found the time to go.

I am going to Chicago Friday for my 3RD dinner at Next this year. We got the season tickets. This one is Worlds 50 Best. Most excited I have been for a dinner since my first time at Alinea. Going to Blackbird Saturday night.

Gibsons has a great vibe but may barely crack top 15 steakhouse as far as quality food is concerned
