An ACC title in the 100 butterfly by freshman Michel Arkhangelskiy fueled the No. 18/25 Florida State swimming and diving team on the fourth day of the ACC Championships in Greensboro, N.C., on Friday.

Including Arkhangelskiy’s gold, FSU earned seven top-eight podium finishes on Friday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. The Seminoles posted eight top-ten times in program history with four school records.

“Tonight was just so special.” FSU coach Neal Studd said, “We are swimming so well and having so much fun. Michel winning was of course amazing, and the relays were outstanding. I could not be prouder of this team, and I loved every minute of it.”

Arkhangelskiy continued his strong debut ACC meet on Friday, winning gold and shattering the FSU record in the 100 backstroke with a time of 44.49. It was his third medal-winning performance of the meet, along with silvers in the 100 butterfly and 200 medley relay.

Fifth-year Mason Herbet and junior Max Wilson also took home points in the 100 backstroke, with Herbet finishing sixth in 45.75 and Wilson taking 11th with a 45.37.

The momentum continued in the 100 breaststroke as senior Maddy Huggins posted a fourth-place finish in 59.08 and junior Tommaso Baravelli took eighth with a 51.86.

Freshman Logan Robinson also earned an A finals berth and took his first individual top-eight finish at fifth in the 200 butterfly. Already No. 1 in the record books, he broke his own school record with a time of 1:40.34.

The women capped off the night with another program record and a sixth-place overall finish in the 400 medley relay. Led by freshman Alice Velden, Huggins and seniors Edith Jernstedt and Gloria Muzito, they took down their own FSU record with a time of 3:31.04.

The men also finished off their memorable session by breaking an FSU record and earning a fourth-place relay finish of their own. With a time of 3:02.33, Wilson, Baravelli, Arkhangelskiy and junior Sam Bork helped the Seminole men finish in the top five in all four relays so far this week.

Three freshmen earned points on platform. Noah Turner paced the way in 10th with 321.10 points, followed by Carlos Vargas in 14th with 319.05. Hayden Schroeder was 18th with a total of 303.85.

Jernstedt finished the 200 butterfly 11th overall with a time of 1:55.70, followed by junior Sophie Freeman who was 18th with a time of 1:57.19. Junior Julia Mansson also was 13th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 59.97. Two more freshman earned finals berths, as Velden was 18th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 52.27 and Mathias Christensen posted a 1:43.97 in the 200 butterfly to put him 22nd overall.

With one day remaining, the FSU men are sixth overall with 516.5 points and the women are seventh with 350 points.
