Why is there an assumption of guilt in the media when an athlete is accused? The media drives that narrative from ESPN, CBS, to social media. There's an assumption that Cook is guilty because of the video showing Johnson strike a female. The elephant in the room that no one wants to address is-including Jameis- we had three African-Americans accused of a crime and at least two of the alleged victims were white females. If Cook's accuser is white then three white girls. Even some our own fans are calling for Cook's dismissal without due process. Cook may be guilty and may need to eventually be dismissed but to take the word of a totally intoxicated alleged victim without giving the accused due process is unfair. I think it's fair to ask if the athletes were white would there be such a rush to judgment?
I defended Treon Harris when he was falsely accused of rape. Since the accuser text him ahead of time, there was already a reasonable doubt about her credibility. But UF assumed guilt and not only suspended Treon, they refused to allow him on campus. That seems unfair and punitive to me and I think Treon had a cause of action against UF. Look what Duke University did in the Lacrosse case. Guilty, guilty, guilty. Eighty-eight (88) professors signed an ad condemning the Duke athletes. They took the word of someone who later committed second degree murder over their own student- athletes.
I'm just saying wait to judge Cook until all the facts are in.
