I know this is a huge emotional issue, but after watching Golson for 3 games I do not see anything "special" about his play. In fact I think size alone, and I mean being 5'10", is an issue. Yes I know most balls are thrown between DL not necessarily over them, but I think EG has simply missed some guys who are open because he can't see them.
SM is at least 4 if not 6 inches taller then EG, has the arm strength and might be an answer. Let him play and worse that happens is go back to EG.
I will add, SM would have been tackled for a safety against BC while EG somehow escaped. That single play might have been the one play that could have changed the game.
