Cut the cable ... now what for Football?

Man ..... just to watch TV sure has gotten complicated.

So a question I have is how does all this work with the slingbox we have connected to our DVR/cable box?

Yep. I just tried it and when you go into WatchESPN and it asks for cable provider YouTube TV is an option.

This. I have given YouTube TV a test drive for the last few days and so far have found it to be fantastic. Good clear HD picture with no noticeable lags or interruptions so far. The channel selection is good and the interface is pretty user friendly. DVR seems to work well.

I do find it odd, that ESPN commercials are not shown (it goes to a screen with music playing when commercials are on). Seems like advertisers would want the exposure and it would make it cheaper for YouTube's access fees, but whatever.

The only minor complaint is that you have to scroll through the channel list to change channels and there is no last channel button. There aren't that many channels, so it isn't much of a pain, but it would be nice to be able to use channel numbers or my TV voice commands to switch channels.

The commercials thing is across all the streaming services, as far as I know. Even when watching the ESPN app it's the same. I think it's because the local markets have time allocated to commercials that you would only see if you got the local feed through your cable/satellite provider. As far as last channel button, that might be dependent on the device you're using to stream. I know for YouTube TV you can customize your channel order, so that the channels you watch most are at the top. This cuts down on how much scrolling you have to do.

PS Vue has a last channel button. It's different for each device, but it's there. You can also split screen, which is nice on game day.

And how about RedZone?

It does not have the NFL Network channels. At first I thought it did, but it has basically all the sports but that. I don't think it will be that big of a deal for me because all games except maybe a couple are being broadcast on major networks or ESPN.

I love the DVR function, but am not sure that it will cover extensions for long games, overtime, weather delays, etc.
