Dog owners now have scientific data to back them in the eternal debate over whether dogs really are smarter than cats.

A study led by a Vanderbilt University professor counted for the first time the number of cortical neurons in the brains of cats and dogs and found that dogs possess nearly double the amount of neurons compared to cats.

I have a dog and a cat. Only one of them thinks the other’s poop is a delicacy. I’ve always figured that makes it clear which is smarter.
A cat works all day to catch something to eat, a dog just goes out in the backyard and eats something off his own personal buffet.

Did they take into account sense of smell? Because the more receptors there are, the more synapses needed to process the data

Cats - 45 million to 80 million receptors
Dogs - 149 million and 300 million receptors

Well duh everyone knows that Dogs are the best; especially the dog in the photo. What I am glad about is how a major university dropped how many millions on a study for this. I was telling my wife just the other day you know once we get the final word on who is smarter cats or dogs we can finally retire.

The military guy complaining about wasteful spending. That's funny.

A military guy that completely agrees with you. I can tell you there are a lot of us that feel that way. I can tell you in my job and the units I am in we make it a point to try and spend smartly; even though the rules often prevent it. There are major restructuring efforts across the board which will help some; the most important one being in Army Acquisitions. The military will always waste money though.

Every governmental entity wastes money...If they don't spend all of their budget in a fiscal year, it gets cut the next.

*Should've stuck with the original post.
