December 40 years ago in 1977 was a big time for Florida State football. Bobby started a streak of slapping around the gators & won his first bowl game ever as FSU's head coach.
Bobby Bowden put an end to the "second-rate" nonsense by beating the gators for the 1st time in 10 yrs, only the 3rd time ever & only the 2nd time in Gainesville. It started a 4-year streak thru 1980. His streak probably would've went longer but the gators ramped up their cheating at the time like we all know they like to do which led to bowl bans from 1984-85.
In Bobby's first bowl victory as FSU's head coach, he beat Texas Tech 40-17.
