Do any of you know of any hidden jewels in the Destin area thats not too expensive. We have stayed at Sandpiper Cove for years but just looking for something different. Need some beach and family time. We plan on just going to the beach and hanging out for a few days.

I don't. I either do not stay in the area and just come back home or stay at a campsite in Grayton.

If I'm staying in the panhandle, I either stay at a campsite in Grayton or Ft Pickens or else I'm staying at the Coombs House or Gibson Inn in Apalachicola. I used to stay at a friends beach home in St George Island but I lost that when he blew his fool head off with a shotgun over his ex-wife divorcing him WITHOUT taking his money. Which goes to show depression has nothing to do with reality, sure he was mid-divorce but it was a divorce because of his cheating with a younger hotter upgrade he was living with at the time of his suicide and he had tons of money. Plus his ex-wife wouldn't be taking half of his stuff she had just inherited many millions of dollars and was rushing the divorce through before she fully got it so HE wouldn't get access to her money. Long story short...dumb dumb cheated me out of easy SGI beach access for no reason. ;p

Try VRBO in the Blue Mountain beach area. Closer to Seaside than Destin but beautiful area and not nearly as congested as Destin. Anywhere on 30a is a great spot.

I definitely agree that if I couldn't spend the night at a campsite in Grayton or Ft Pickens my next spot would be staying anywhere in 30A area. SGI and Apalachicaola over to Topsail is my favorite area of Florida when it comes to beach and fishing activities.

I wish someone were telling that story about you.

Destin is a nightmare, stay anywhere from Inlet Beach to Topsail.

VRBO is a joke now. Its been taken over by real estate companies so the deals you used to get are not there anymore. It used to be you renting directly from the owner, not now. The name should be changed to VRBREC....vacation rental by real estate companies.

Because there will be zero traffic and no wait time at any restaurant in south Walton/30A

Seriously. The whole place is wall to wall. You're on vacation, what's your rush and what are you doing driving that much anyway? The motel I mentioned (The Inn On Destin Harbor) is within walking distance of Harbor Docks, AJs, The Boathouse, Harbor Walk, The Hog's Breath and more. It's a short drive over the bridge to the beach. I figured 1728 being recently divorced is probably on the prowl and this would be a good spot for him...

Another good spot (for me anyway) is the Hampton Inn down by The Back Porch. Good restaurant and beach right there. Adventure Island is walking distance if he's got the kids. You don't even have to drive anywhere...

On 30A the Palms of Seagrove is within walking distance of the Seagrove Market, Whisky Bravo and some other good spots...
