It's extremely hard to win a title. Anyone that thinks Mike Norvell (or any coach) is realistically winning a title in his first 3 years doesn't really know their college football history...
Tom Osborne won first tile in year 22 at Nebraska
Bobby Bowden won first tile in year 17 at FSU and his 23rd year as a D1 coach
Don James won first title in year 17 at Washington
Vince Dooley won first title in year 17 at Georgia
Joe Paterno won first title in year 17 at Penn State
Lavell Edwards won first title in year 13 at BYU
Bill McCartney won first title in year 9 at Colorado
Mack Brown year 8 at Texas and his 21st year as a D1 coach
Dabo Swinney year 8 at Clemson
Steve Spurrier year 7 at UF and his 10th year as a D1 coach
Darrell Royal year 7 at Texas and his 10th year as a D1 coach
Phil Fulmer year 7 at Tennessee
Howard Schnellenberger year 5 at Miami
Bobby Ross year 4 at Georgia Tech and his 14th year as a D1 coach
Bear Bryant year 4 at Alabama and his 17th year as a D1 coach
Woody Hayes year 4 at Ohio State
Jimmy Johnson year 4 at Miami and 9th year a D1 coach
Johnny Majors year 4 at Pitt and 9th year a D1 coach
Nick Saban year 4 at LSU and his 10th year as a D1 coach
Jimbo Fisher year 4 at FSU, and 7th year on FSU staff.
Ed Orgeron year 4 at LSU and his 8th year as a D1 coach
Danny Ford year 4 at Clemson
*20 of CFB's most accomplished coaches: Bo Schembechler, Frank Broyles, Mark Richt, Butch Davis, Frank Beamer, Jackie Sherrill, Don Nehlen, Frank Broyles, Frank Howard, Bill Snyder, George Welsh, Pat Dye, John Cooper, Gary Pinkel, RC Slocum, Barry Alvarez, Hayden Frye, Mike Bellotti, Bobby Petrino, Art Briles = 0 combined titles
*CFB current top coaches: Dan Mullen, Chris Peterson, James Franklin, Jim Harbaugh, Brian Kelly, Kyle Whittingham, Ryan Day, Kirby Smart, Tom Herman, Lincoln Riley, Scott Frost, Clay Helton, Matt Campbell, PJ Fleck, David Shaw, Paul Chryst, Gus Mahlzahn, Mike Gundy, Kirk Ferentz, Mike Dantonio, Chip Kelly, Mike Leach, Gary Patterson, Bronco Mendenhall, Tom Herman, Pat Narduzzi, Pat Fitzgerald, Kevin Sumlin, Jeremy Pruitt, Lane Kiffin, Will Muschamp, Justin Fuente = 0 combined titles
*Coaches that won in 3 years or less at a program: Nick Saban, Pete Carroll, Bob Stoops, Lou Holtz, Lloyd Carr, Urban Meyer, Gene Stallings, Jim Tressell, Barry Switzer. These are among the greatest college coaches of All-Time. Most them had several year of head coaching experience before winning their first title as well.
*Other coaches that won in 3 years or less: Larry Coker, Dennis Erickson, Frank Solich and Les Miles. These guys inherited two of the most loaded rosters of All-Time. Gene Chizik struck lightning with Cam Newton. These are clearly the outliers.
As long as we continue to show progress, Norvell deserves a lot of rope and patience. It's not at all realistic to expect a title in the first 3 years.
