The No. 64 Florida State women’s tennis team (13-8, 4-7 ACC) fell to No. 3 Duke (19-2, 11-0) 4-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Ambler Tennis Stadium in Durham, N.C.
Florida State earned a major victory in doubles as FSU's 76th-ranked duo of Eva Shaw and Maria Juliana Parra Romero jumped out to a 2-0 lead on their way to a 6-2 win over Irina Balus and Ellie Coleman, the No. 15 doubles pair in the nation. Shaw and Parra Romero improved to 13-3 overall this season while earning their sixth win in ACC play and the duo's highest-ranked victory this season. Duke earned victories on Court 2 and Court 3 to win the doubles point and take the early 1-0 lead.
In singles, the Seminoles claimed first sets on Courts 1 and 5. Duke earned victories on Courts 3 and 6 to take a 3-0 advantage. The Blue Devils clinched the match on Court 2 after a 6-6 tiebreaker, earning a 4-0 victory.
Shaw split her first two sets against No. 18-ranked Balus, finishing the first set 6-0. The match was left unfinished at a 5-5 tie in the third set. On Court 5, Parra Romero won her first set 6-4 and led No. 83 Shavat Kimchi 5-4 in the second when the match concluded.
The Seminoles will close out their regular season tomorrow against No. 6 North Carolina at noon at the Chewning Tennis Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
