Look at this objectively. Everett Golson is completing 64% of his passes. He is averaging 7.4 yards per attempt. He has thrown 7 TD Passes and 0 INTs. His passer rating is 148.2. That is not bad. Jimbo is just calling the game more conservative with him right now. He has thrown 106 passes in 4 games. That is 26.5 passes per game. Last year Jameis threw 467 passes in 13 games. That is 36 passes per game. So basically Golson is throwing 10 fewer passes per game than Jameis did. Of course he isn't going to produce as gaudy of stats when he is throwing 10 fewer passes per game. Jameis also threw 18 INTs last year. And I'm not knocking Jameis at all. He is the best QB we ever had. I'm just saying that 0 INTs through 4 games is a good thing and you can win a lot of games by playing good defense and not turning the ball over.
Even in ACC games when Golson has supposedly struggled (Wake and BC) he is completing 64% for 321 yards and 2 TDs.
What happened against Wake and BC is Golson only averaged 9.2 yards per completion against those teams. A healthy yards per completion average is anything 12.5 or above. What that is telling me is that we aren't hitting on enough plays further down the field. Why? Protection for one, Jimbo's more conservative play calling for two, and Golson not quite clicking with the wide receivers for three.
64% is a good completion percentage especially with all the drops, but the yards per completion needs to be higher against the better opponents.
