Willie Taggart was fired due to his overall record, and moving the program in the wrong direction. It had nothing to do with already having another coach lined up already.
Bob Stoops was our top target. We went back and forth with his agent, trying to meet any high demands he may have. They were met for the most part, but he was never really as serious about FSU as FSU was about him. He never really considered himself a candidate, as referenced everywhere else who has reached out to him.
The committee still worked on a list, and reach out to several different potential candidates. James Franklin, Marc Stoops, Norvell, Campbell, Deion Sanders (out of respect), Odell.. However the top one of these guys was Franklin.
Franklin and FSU came very close to terms, so much so that FSU was ready to announce him the head coach this week. Painted the field, fixed up the Champions Club.. the whole 9 yards. Franklin, for whatever reason, got cold feet and ended up not finalizing the deal.
Peterson resigns from Washington... At this time, no relation to the FSU job.
Norvell becomes the most logical choice, as "next man up on the list". Talks are most likely moving in that direction but nothing is guaranteed at this point as well.
All that being said.... IT'S STILL BOB .........................................................................the builder that will build the new FSU football only facility for our next coach, not named Bob Stoops!!
