Favorite Books?

Stephen King - Duma Key and From a Buick 8 are my two favorites of his
Wilbur Smith - Hungry as the Sea, the Courtney Series, just about everything else of his I've read
Dean Koontz - I like most of them. Good light reads.
Stuart Woods - The Stone Barrington books
Harlan Coben - The Myron Bolitar series
There have been some books out recently to do with the current state of politics that I've enjoyed

I go through about a book a month...my niches are comedian/singer/TV biographies and then lots of American/World history mostly centered around war figures so take it for what its worth but these were the best reads for me this year (I actually made it through about 20 books this year)

Rickles Book: A Memoir (one of the funnier books I have read. Always liked him as a comedian but his life stories, especially the ones with the rat pack, are hilarious.)

Hope: Entertainer of the Year (real great read)

Andrew Jackson and the Miracle of New Orleans...really good read...people don't realize how important that victory was to our independence...

The Jersey Brothers: Good read. About a group of brothers obviously and their war story for each and the subsequent search for one of their brothers (In vain) who got left behind when McArthur's sorry ass abandoned the Phillipines and left thousands of our folks stranded.

Last stand of the Tin Can Sailors...about the Battle of Samar...a bunch of small boys and carrier escorts against pretty much what was left of the Japanese fleet (including several battleships and cruisers). A couple of our destroyers and frigates stories about charging straight at much much larger ships in battle is an amazing story.

Thomas Jefferson and the Tripoli Pirates: Also a very good read about our conflict with the countries/pirates that dictated the beginning of our Navy

Oh and one more I almost forgot and probably the most amazing story I read this year...Hell from the Heavens...about USS LAFFEY....who first served in assisting with patrol and shore fire on D Day..then sailed around the world to the Pacific and while on station off Okinawa during that invasion was attacked by like 40 kamikaze planes over a 2 hour period..took like 8-9 full or partial hits...shot down a number in the teens itself (and had help from escort planes as well who shot down a bunch). The ship was an absolute wreck after the battle but survived.

I could never get over that his girlfriend is actually named Arrington, and if married she'd be Arrington Barrington - I know he was going for very classy...

Yeah. They’re cheesy but light and entertaining...

Child is very formulaic. Entertaining, but no real substance there.

I don't disagree, but they are very entertaining. And much better/different than the Tom Cruise delivered movies.

I’ll read this...I like this kind of stuff.

My step-daughter got me "A Noise Downstairs" for Christmas, its by Linwood Barclay. Have never heard of this author but am looking forward to reading the book based on the inside cover flap.

Hampton Sides is pretty good. Blood and Thunder is my favorite if you’re interested in Native Americans and the Southwest in the 1800s.

Also, I’ve always liked The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara. A historical novel about the battle of Gettysburg.
