After watching I am amazed by the lack of communication by any character to another. Why didn't the mom tell her daughter, "Hey, this virus is really bad. It's making people extremely sick, quickly, and makes them crazy enough to attack people. Also, being shot and stabbed does not stop them. Do not go outside as I have already had to kill one of them."

I get that Tobias and the mom were freaked out at the school, but leaving the food behind is really bad form.

Why didn't the love-struck boyfriend tell his girlfriend about his bite, who bit him, where it happened, etc.?

Considering the part of L.A. where the dad is has a riot going on, do you think his truck will still be there when things, "die down"

Why isn't anyone checking the news on their phones? Since 9/11 our society is addicted to instant news. I am sure more than the video of the guy on the freeway is out there at this point. How is no information being shared in real time?

Regardless, I like watching the breakdown of society. I would just like the folks to act normal and watch the tv or read the news for some exposition.

I like the juxtaposition of the beginning of the apocalypse with the family setting up the bouncy house for the kids party. I can understand how folks can be oblivious at times. I know I have gotten caught up at work and days go by when I have overlooked things that in retrospect were hard to miss (not apocalypse related but you get the point).

I was slightly frustrated with the mom not telling the kid what happened as a means to get the point across that unbelievable things are going on and we can't just pretend everything is okay.

Mrs. Alaska was saying the same thing about the phone call between Travis and his ex-wife. Quit beating around the bush...just say, "Look, woman, there's an emergency situation and I'm on my way. This is NOT about custody. We need to find our son!!" Why is that so hard?

I'm enjoying the show, BUT the communication (or lack thereof) is, in fact, frustrating!

As stated in the other thread. Nick

Love the beginning of the apocalypse, not digging the lack of communication or how ineffective the two zombies were - Nick's friend and the principal. In the early days of TWD these zombies would be pulling out your guts even if they could not bite you

Interesting point Yogi, I'm not really clear on how much more "aggressive" Zeke was in the beginning of TWD. Would be interesting to go back and re-watch a few early episodes.

Remember we're watching with 5 seasons of TWD under our belt. I'm sure the writers were struggling to strike a balance between people being completely clueless about the coming apocalypse and jumping right into the head shots with samurai swords. But I think having people being eaten in your front yard will wake them up real quick.

Remember how Dale died? A zombie pulled his guts out, no bites

My wife's commentary and communication was much more entertaining than that in episode 2. She agrees with all posters here, she yelled at the Mom multiple times, wanted her and the ex-wife to get bit and be done with. I hate to think of her as a writer, show would have been over 15 minutes into episode 1.....trying to hold out for the action to pick up, but it is entertaining to see what could happen and what people are numb too.

The mom is basically TWD Lori part 2. The fans are strongly rooting for her to get bumped off

Personally, she'd have to get MUCH more annoying for her to approach Lori territory. Easier on the eyes and a better actress too.
Agreed. She hasn't done anything remotely Lori level yet. I mean Lori set the bar for stupid.

As far as communication, this show is supposed to take place before the infection right? So is it circa 2010 at the time? Things have changed to more of a Twitter/Instant media response tone now as compared to 2010.

The hard thing to keep in perspective is how crazy the whole zombie thing sounds in a world where, it seems, no one wants to acknowledge that zombies are even so much as a horror genre. Obviously, to the people of the world in the show, Zombies are not even a possible thought.

They're not good on details like that. To be fair we know nothing of the exact date of the outbreak. The original TWD story might've as well started in the future, 2015 for instance.

This is true. They may be purposely vague. They have been using touch screen phones, so we know that it's within the last 6-8 years or so. Beyond then, I can't think of much that locks it into a particular time period, although I haven't been looking very hard.

A few things that surprise me.

1. Teenagers phones are not blowing up with text messages or images.
2. The lack of any sort of news.
3. There was a missed opportunity to raise the dead in front of the crowd when the homeless dude was laying there. That would have made for magical television and lots of public fear on the parts of the crowd.
4. So they're meeting in the desert. Where? Need more exposition.
5. The government must have the clamps on the news agencies as parents and students knew to not show up to school so there is an awareness to the coming doom it's just being allowed to get out.
6. The principal being turned. The school was let out early so that means someone died at the school and at least bit him. He, however, was not bitten enough to not be completely eaten as he cleared caught the Z1-N1 and died.
7. Initially all who died did not rise. Think about, in the U.S. alone 7,000 folks die a day of natural causes. That's a quick spreading of the Z.A. The spread is too slow for this to have been true on the outset. Remember Tobias spoke of this phenomenon being discussed for weeks on the interwebs.
8. The cop with the water. Do you feel he truly knew what was going on and said, "to hell with being a martyr" defending the lives of those who are going to die any way. Or was he really concerned with his team staying hydrated?

Since each year they seem to be driving one of the latest model vehicles, this is a safe assumption.

RJ: One interesting thing I noticed is that when the old guy in the hospital died, the Dr. said something very authoritatively to the effect of "We have to get him downstairs right now!" I got the feeling that they had seen folks turn like that before.

I'm finding the lead female (gone girl, girl) extremely attractive, but at the same time not that attractive. I feel conflicted.

There's something about here I can't put my finger on....very strange.

Agreed with those who said the poor communication is annoying.

Also, the dad is a giant p***y letting his son dictate to him what he will and wont be doing. How can he let him argue with him about staying at the protest when he has already seen whats been happening to people?

For some reason, the mother doesn't bother me. Its the druggie son I want to see get offed.

I disagree...I have a feeling he was probably a pretty good kid, maybe an athlete, good grades, popular, etc. I'm curious what sparked his down fall and spiral into drug addiction. Looking forward to Nick Beetlejuice's back story.

Gone Girl is on HBO pretty much every day and it's been my "leave it on" movie of choice after the kids go to sleep. I think she looks better in the show than in the movie.

Agreed...I didn't think there was anything that stood out about her in the movie, but not so much in this show. She looks kinda hot...I think at least.

The mom was also Sawyer's long con on Lost.

I agree the writing isn't so good. The first two episodes have not grabbed hold of me like the first couple episodes of TWD. It's lazy writing to create drama. It reminds me of what Roger Ebert called "the idiot plot". It's defined as "any plot containing problems that would be solved instantly if all of the characters were not idiots."

Opposite for me. Much more interested in the mom and her story than the son's. Don't really care what the reason is that he is a drug addict, just don't care to see anything dealing with that subject. Personal preference.

I like the show so far, but if I'm nitpicking, I think in the age of media drama and smart phones we live in, this would be global news and widespread panic much faster. You're telling me it's taking weeks to for anyone to figure out that there is a zombie outbreak going on? Yea right, when ebola was a hot topic, a guy from West Africa could barely land in the USA without the news letting us know.
