you are in Texas IIRC? Whereabouts?

Yes; for the most part I enjoy living here. I moved here from Tally in 1998 and married a Hispanic girl from Galveston. So there is a lot of family around me. The weather in the summer if pretty brutal. In 2011, when we had our severe drought and temps of over 100 for over one hundred days straight, I was ready to move. But come late October until early May, it's wonderful.

I really enjoy living near the Gulf Coast. They are by far the ugliest beaches I have seen, but I enjoy being able to be at the coast in a hour or out in the bay on my friends boat. You are a 3 hour drive from most places that you want to go in Texas (San Antonio, Corpus, Austin) and 4 hours from DFW.

The city never stops growing and it is a transient, blue collar city. Lots of refineries on the ship channel. Oil is king, but has the larges medical center in America and 2nd large shipping port. The city doesn't hold on to its heritage...it'' tear down a historic building to build a Wal-Mart or shopping center in a second. Those are kind of the bad things.

But there are some really wonderful neighborhoods. The Heights, EaDo, Montrose. The restaurant scene is a killer. Texas, in general, was shielded by the economic collapse due to energy and certain laws on mortgage and home appraisal....so we were not hit with the problems like in Florida in other places.

Thanks, appreciate the insight. Might be considering a move to the area over next year or so. Not too excited about the humidity though.

There is just no way to sugar coat it. June through September it is tough. Pretty much the same as NOLA, but the air moves a little better here than if you are in downtown New Orleans. You can pretty much guarantee 95-97 degrees and high humidity. Afternoon showers are the break, but then you are in a walking sauna. We don't do much outside. Downtown is has tunnels that people use to move around. It try to run at Memorial Park at night, but even at 8 it's pretty tough. Usually spend the weekends at the community pool, in the little kiddie pool and spray thing we have in the backyard or at the beach.

Had 5 yards of fill delivered last night around 6pm. Had a chance of rain so I wanted to move it off the street and into the backyard before morning. Fortunately a neighbor jumped in about an hour in. But I'm damned sore today. Tough getting old and fat.
