I thought I would start a positive thread for analyzing our tournament opponents rather than contribute to a post bashing Ham. What is everybody's thoughts on how we match up with Florida Gulf Coast? Here are my thoughts? 1) Florida Gulf Coast is a lot smaller than we are height wise. 2) Florida Gulf Coast hasn't been a very good three point shooting team on the season ranking #218 in the country while making 33.9% of their three point shots.
With that in mind, I don't see Florida Gulf Coast being able to score very easily against our set defense. If we turn the ball over and they get out in transition that is a different story. But in the half court I think we'll be able to lock Florida Gulf Coast down. Florida Gulf Coast does most of its damage in the paint but we have the size and shot blocking ability to take that away and they haven't shown the perimeter shooting to take our bigs away from the basket.
On offense, I'll be interested in seeing if Florida Gulf Coast tries to do what has given us the most trouble which is playing Zone. If they do, I think we can hurt them on the Offensive Glass. But I hope we come out and shoot well from the perimeter unlike the way we shot in Brooklyn. If Florida Gulf Coast plays Man to Man, I think we'll carve them up.
On paper, this isn't a matchup that should give us trouble but we have to play well.
