I'm not nearly old enough to remember this first hand, but I've read about it and I think it's the most underrated win in our program history. Coming into the game we had just 3 wins in 29 tries vs the SEC. Kentucky came into the game ranked #5, one of their highest rankings in school history. We were unranked. Final score: FSU 48 Kentucky 6. It's still the only time in NCAA history an unranked team beat a top 5 team by 40+ points.
Kentucky was beaten so badly they never recovered and ended up losing several games after that. Maybe they just weren't very good, but I like to think our game had something to do with that.
It was actually 48-0 until Kentucky scored a cheap garbage time TD with :29 seconds left (thanks to a bad snap on a punt recovered at our 2 yard line). Had that not happened, we would have shut out our first four opponents of the season. That was a darn good team, probably our best ever pre-Bowden.
