In its final dual meet of the regular season, the No. 21/25 Florida State swimming and diving team won 17 of 32 events against No. 4/5 Florida on Friday afternoon in Ocala.

Swimming events were held at Florida Aquatics Swimming & Training in Ocala, while 1- and 3-meter diving was contested at UF’s O’Connell Center Natatorium in Gainesville. The divers will conclude competition tomorrow on platform.

The Seminole men posted nine victories, with 1-2 finishes in three events. The women claimed eight wins, including both relays, with four 1-2 finishes and a sweep of the top three places in one event.

We had a great day of racing,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “There were some real highlights and proud moments for us. The Gators had a lot of sick athletes, so we raced but did not score the meet. We felt that this gave our athletes the opportunity we wanted, but also respected our opponents’ bad luck. We were really happy with what we saw today from our team.”

Freshman Michel Arkhangelskiy led the way with three individual wins and a relay victory. His day individually began in the 50 freestyle, where a 19.65 led a 1-2 finish, followed by a personal-best 42.51 in the 100 freestyle. Arkhangelskiy added a 46.21 in the 100 butterfly to finish his four-win afternoon.

Senior Maddy Huggins won both breaststroke events, fellow senior Edith Jernstedt swept the butterfly races and sophomore Andrew Rich claimed the backstroke events, as each won their respective 100 and 200s. Huggins took the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.79 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:09.14, setting the path for 1-2 finishes in both contests. Jernstedt led a 1-2-3 finish to win the 100 butterfly in 52.50, and she added a victory in the 200 butterfly in 1:57.10. Rich was triumphant in the 100 backstroke with a time of 47.21 for a 1-2 FSU finish, and he claimed the 200 backstroke in 1:43.68.

Huggins and Jernstedt also contributed to relay wins on Friday.

The Seminoles finished first and second in two more events. Senior Gloria Muzito swam the 50 freestyle in 22.81 to pick up an individual win to go along with two relay victories. Freshman Mathias Christensen notched a 400 individual medley time of 3:50.68 to lead the Seminoles’ 1-2 finish.

Fifth-year Yordan Yanchev and freshmen Logan Robinson and Alice Velden also took home individual wins. Yanchev with a time of 4:19.93 in the 500 freestyle, Robinson with a 1:43.91 in the 200 butterfly and Velden with a 53.17 in the 100 backstroke. Velden also added a relay victory.

Relay wins began with the women’s 200 medley in 1:36.64, courtesy of Velden, Huggins, graduate student Jenny Halden and Muzito, and quickly followed with the men’s 200 medley in 1:24.95 thanks to fifth-year Mason Herbet, junior Tommaso Baravelli, Arkhangelskiy and senior Jokubas Keblys. The day wrapped up with the women’s 200 freestyle relay winning in 1:30.67 to pace a 1-2 finish led by freshman Maryn McDade, Jernstedt, Halden and Muzito.
