The No. 9 Florida State men’s tennis team hosts its opening home matches of the season against Florida Gulf Coast, Alabama State, and Georgia Southern this weekend. The Seminoles have won 38 consecutive home openers dating back to 1988.

Florida State will hold its home opening match against Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday at 9 a.m. before facing Alabama State at 4 p.m. FSU will close out the weekend with Georgia Southern on Sunday at 2 p.m. The Seminoles are unbeaten against Florida Gulf Coast and Alabama State in seven combined meetings while sweeping Georgia Southern in the last four matchups.

Saturday’s matches will be played at the Indoor Tennis Courts due to impending weather while the match on Sunday is slated to be played outdoors at the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center.

FSU kicked off 2025 with a strong first match in which they did not drop a single set in singles play, claiming a dominant 6-1 victory over Hawaii. Florida State won all six singles matches in straight sets, marking its 24th consecutive season-opening victory dating back to 2002.

Jamie Connel began his senior campaign with a ranked victory over the No. 77 player in the nation on his Court 1 debut. Corey Craig made his first career dual match appearance for the Seminoles and capitalized with a straight-set victory on Court 2. Connel and Craig begin the season ranked inside the top-25, marking the second time in the past three seasons FSU has held multiple top-25 preseason singles entries.

Alex Bulte cruised to an emphatic victory, blanking his opponent in the first set before winning the final five games. Sophomore transfer Erik Schiessl won in his first match as a Seminole before fellow sophomore Azariah Rusher shined in his Court 5 debut. Joshua Dous-Karpenschif won 12 of 14 games played and held six-game winning streaks in both sets.

The Seminoles earned its highest-ever ITA Team Preseason ranking coming into the season as the No. 9 program in the nation. FSU is fresh off its first-ever ACC Championship title and second NCAA Third Round appearance in the past three seasons. The team also had five All-Americans in the past calendar year with four returning this season, nearly doubling the program total at 12.

Calum MacGeoch was announced as Florida State’s second assistant coach on Wednesday, joining reigning ACC Coach of the Year, Dwayne Hultquist, and the 2024 ITA Southeast Assistant Coach of the Year, Sudanwa Sitaram.
