The Florida State men’s tennis team swept the opening match of conference play against Boston College on Friday afternoon. The Seminoles completed a fifth consecutive 7-0 sweep at the Speicher Tennis Center over BC.

FSU continued its white-hot doubles form with two early 4-0 leads as the Seminoles asserted full control. Jan Sebesta and Jamie Connel earned their fifth victory of the season as a pairing after a 6-1 win on Court 3. The doubles point was clinched just a few moments later after Alex Bulte and Youcef Rihane completed a 6-1 victory on Court 1.

The Seminoles took full advantage of their dominant start to the match and carried it into singles play, winning all six first sets. Rihane was the first player to win after a 6-1, 6-1 performance on Court 4 for back-to-back wins after his three-set victory against No. 18 Alabama.

Freshman Azariah Rusher began ACC play with a complete straight-sets win for his second career win on Court 5. Rusher is currently riding his second three-match winning streak this spring and won his 10th match of the season.

Corey Craig clinched match point for the second time this week after a 6-2, 6-1 straight-sets win. Craig claimed his first Court 1 win at the Speicher Tennis Center today off the heels of his first-ever ACC Player of the Week honor.

Sebesta won his first ACC match of his career after a 6-2, 6-3 win on Court 3, the Swiss native is fresh off his first ACC Freshman of the Year honor. Connel followed suit with a 6-4, 6-1 straight sets win before Joshua Dous-Karpenschif held firm to win identical 6-3 sets. FSU won all 12 sets of singles play.

The Seminoles will host new conference member SMU on Sunday at 12 p.m. to round out the first weekend of ACC play. Free hot dogs, chips, and cookies will be available to fans at the match. Live video and stats will be available on Seminoles.com.
