So for all the upheaval over the delayed announcement for Briles, FSU did this perfectly.

1. Briles got to coach his last game at his alma mater. Means less to some these days but it clearly meant something to him and FSU was respectful of that.

2. The announcement coming 2 days before Christmas diverts a lot of media attention simply because of the timing. Games are being played and that will consume the majority of media coverage.

3. Timing again. Everyone, media, fans, players, politicians, activists are all on a prolonged holiday or covering games. Attention will come but who the hell is dialed in this time of year?

4. Those feeling like this was misplayed because we missed out on Howell need to cool your jets. He was a Bell want, not WT, and not Briles. Given the way things played out I think his flip was addition by subtraction. Wish the kid well and move on.

5. The recruiting class took a couple of hits but also got 2 really good players to flip to the good side. Only player that fans got truly upset about was Putnam, but he was never committed and face facts, he went to a better team. Early returns from recruits are they like Briles.

6. The team has all at once peaked the interest of several high profile offensive recruits with this hire. Even though skill position on offense is not a need for this team kids are still looking.

The list of cons amount to negative PR. And they timed it perfectly. There will be blowback, it's already started and will continue. But doing this now, and laying low till spring is the absolute best way this could've played out.

GO NOLES!!!
