Florida State Volleyball has been predicted to finish fifth in the ACC in 2023, according to an ACC Preseason Coaches Poll that was announced on Wednesday.

Two Seminoles in junior outside hitter Audrey Koenig and junior middle blocker Khori Louis were each selected to the 18-member Preseason Volleyball All-ACC Team.

Louis, a Tallahassee native, has already had a decorated career that includes making the All-ACC Second Team in 2022 and the ACC All-Freshman Team in 2021. Last year the former Florida High standout led the Seminoles with a .357 hitting percentage as well as 14 solo blocks, playing in all 110 sets.

Koenig, a native of Wesley Chapel, Fla., led Florida State with 321 kills last season and had the second-most digs on the squad with 253. She made the All-ACC Second Team last year and also was on the ACC All-Freshman Team in 2021.

The Seminoles return four student-athletes who played in 100 or more sets last year in Louis, Koenig, graduate setter Jelli Draskovic (110) and senior right-side hitter Sydney Conley (105). FSU has strong depth at the setter position as Arkansas Gatorade Player of the Year and freshman Kenna Phelan enters her first year with FSU, while freshman Ashley Reynolds also adds to the group.

FSU has experience returning at the libero position with juniors Emery Dupes and Addi Hultquist back in the mix. Freshman libero Ella Gaona, who comes from St. Louis, adds more talent to the group.

The middle blocker group has plenty of playmakers with Louis and high-impact transfer Kiari Robey, an Atlanta native who registered a team-high 107 blocks for Oregon last season. Sophomores Laila N’Diaye and Greta Gelumbickas bring back experience from last season.

The Seminoles have no shortage of outside hitters, as Koenig pairs with talented sophomore outside hitter Audrey Rothman to give FSU two outstanding swingers on the left side. Freshman Kyleene Filimaua is the state of Washington’s Gatorade Player of the Year who is a versatile six-rotation player, while junior Skye Ekes and freshman Maddie Snider also give FSU two more strong options.

Overall, the Seminoles return nearly 70 percent of their kill production from a season ago.

Louisville enters the season as the preseason favorite by just a one-vote edge over Pitt (190-189). Miami was selected third followed by Georgia Tech in fourth and FSU in fifth.

Florida State partakes in a Garnet-Gold Scrimmage held on Saturday, Aug. 19, at 2:30 p.m. at Tully Gym. Afterwards, there will be a First Serve Party at the Dunlap Champions Club beginning around 4:30 p.m. that fans can purchase tickets for.

FSU’s first match of the 2023 season happens on Friday, Aug. 25, at the Classic City Clash against Western Carolina in Athens, Ga.

FSU’s first home match is at the Seminole Invitational against SMU on Friday, Sept. 1, at 6 p.m. at Tully Gym.

We should be better than this. Something has to change. We haven't been a significant force in volleyball for too long. Fifth in ACC is just blah...
