Florida State Women's Basketball Head Coach Brooke Wyckoff has announced another transfer to the program beginning in the 2024-25 season, welcoming rising junior forward Morelia Chavez from Eastern Arizona College.
Chavez, a 6-foot-1 player from Morelia Michoacan, Mexico, will have two years of eligibility remaining at FSU.
"We look forward to welcoming Morelia Chavez to the Seminole Family as we continue to add size, experience and shooting ability to our roster," Wyckoff said. "Morelia Chavez pushes us forward in all of those categories. She is a driven, hard worker and we are excited that she is joining us at pursuing excellence at the highest level this season."
In her most recent season with Eastern Arizona, Chavez put up impressive numbers with 11.8 points per game, 5.5 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 41.2 percent from 3-point range. She also shot 84.6 percent from the free-throw line, ranking 13th at the junior college level.
She finished the 2023-24 season on the All-ACCAC DI 1st Team, and totaled 20 games this past year in double-figure scoring. Chavez dropped 31 points on Central Arizona College on Feb. 10, going 12-of-22 from the floor and 4-of-7 from long range.
Chavez was recognized as the ACCAC Player of the Week after leading Eastern Arizona to three consecutive wins over Howard College, Salt Lake Community College and South Plains College.
Last year, she recorded a pair of 23-point performances in wins over Yavapai College and South Mountain Community College. Chavez totaled four 20-point games in the 2023-24 season, and had three games with 10+ rebounds.
Chavez has been lauded for being able to impact a game in multiple ways, being a prolific long-range shooter, a strong defender, a physical player as well as being someone who moves nonstop on both ends of the court.
Her addition to the Seminoles for the 2024-25 season gives FSU 11 student-athletes, as she joins offseason additions Malea Williams (Graduate forward, Cincinnati) and Raiane Dias Dos Santos (Redshirt freshman guard, Gulf Coast State College).
