FSU sports information:
The Florida State women’s basketball team (13-3, 3-1 ACC) fell to Stanford (9-6, 1-3 ACC) on Thursday in a close contest, 89-84, at the Maples Pavilion on Thursday night.
The Seminoles were led by Ta’Niya Latson and O’Mariah Gordon, who contributed 24 and 23 points respectively. It was the sixth time this season the Noles had two players scoring 20 points or more. Latson added seven rebounds, while Gordon contributed four assists.
Makayla Timpson added 19 points, grabbed eight rebounds and swatted three blocks. She also added three steals.
The Seminoles got off to a slow start in the first, trailing 23-17. In the second, Stanford extended its lead to 17 early in the quarter, but a 10-0 run at the end of the half, capped off with Gordon beating the buzzer cut the deficit to seven, 44-37.
After the break, the Seminoles rallied, scoring 25 points, including back-to-back strikes from three by Raiane Dos Santos. FSU trailed by four heading into fourth, 66-62.
Stanford stretched its lead to nine, but FSU pulled within two after a 7-0 run with 4:51 to go, 75-73.
The Cardinal started to pull away, but FSU fought back and cut the lead after Latson hit her third three-point shot of the game with 28 seconds remaining.
However, Stanford held on, taking the game, 89-84.
The RV/No. 24 Seminoles will face No. 24/25 California at the Haas Pavilion at 5 p.m. on Sunday on the ACC Network Extra.
