Now that EVERTHING is on the table because of the latest suspension I want to offer this concept for all of the coaching staff who are influenced by personnel decisions in this forum.
Benefits of MW at WR:
1. Element of Surprise
- Sure teams might laugh when they look out and see a 6'5'' 320lb. tackle in the slot but THAT is why it could be amazing. Imagine a "bubble screen", first play. From all the scouting reports we've seen this week he looks proportionate for his size and moves WELL for a big man. HOW COULD YOU TACKLE THAT MAN?
2. Versatility in "Nastiness Factor of WR Corp"
- I've been fortunate enough to read on several occasions that he has a "mean streak". This kind of DT mentality at the WR position could cause this group to have less of a prima donna attitude and pack a lunch every day, so to speak.
3. Actual Balance on the Overall WR Corp
- Now that DJ Matthews has a greater chance of playing this year our average height/weight becomes a much bigger concern.
- Reports indicate that Matthews has showed up at 5'10'' 150. We can talk about quickness all day but we know deep down that is small even for a ping pong player, much less a sport where people knock you down regularly.
- If you add DJM and MW size and average them you come out with about 6'2" and 240 lbs. Very similar to David Boston who had nearly 1600 yards and 8 TD's for the Arizona Cardinals in 2001.
Potential Negatives of MW at WR:
1. Scouting Reports Unclear on Whether He Can Catch
- I've read every piece of information on this I could find and for some reason no one ever mentions this
- I'm not trying to kill the idea here just using FACTS
2. Creates Lack of Depth at DT
- Nnadi and Christmas are amazing but it sure would be nice to have Wilson here as depth in what most reports indicate is his natural position.
Before you panic realize this; MARVIN WILSON HAS YET TO PLAY A DOWN OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL.
He could be a great WR and we would never miss him at DT. I once heard that Tom Selleck was offered the role of Indiana Jones and turned it down. Sure it pains us to imagine the Raiders franchise with anyone other than Harrison Ford (or Indy with a large moustache for that matter) but if Selleck would have accepted the role originally we would be equally as content.
Remember guys, I'm no sage, just a fellow trying to help out the FSU coaching staff make personnel decisions from a football forum.
God bless.
