Multi-platinum band Hootie & the Blowfish will return from a lengthy hiatus in 2019, embarking on their first full-scale tour in more than a decade and releasing a studio album for the first time in nearly 15 years.

Dubbed the Group Therapy Tour, the trek will visit 44 North American cities with fellow Nineties stars Barenaked Ladies as special guests, kicking off May 30th in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and wrapping up September 13th with a homecoming concert in Columbia, South Carolina. Along the way the band will also perform at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl, New York City’s Madison Square Garden and a number of state fairs. Tickets go on sale to the general public Friday, December 7th, with pre-sales beginning today. In addition, the Grammy-winning group also plans to release an album through a new record label deal with Universal Music Group Nashville, the same label group where singer Darius Rucker is currently signed as a solo performer.

He's a friend of a friend and a great guy. Saw them play a private Lehman Brothers gig at the House of Blues in Orlando and really enjoyed them, but never at a bigger venue. Love Barenaked Ladies as well. Caught them at the Boca Resort for a mortgage conference - mentioned the Journal. Will definitely check them out at the Mars Music Amphitheatre.

WSJ Jan 2006:
Boca skews a bit older than this lively crowd prefers. So instead of competing to see who could party heartiest at a Miami club, as in years past, bankers and clients lazed away on rented yachts.

But it wasn't all low-key: In an effort to alleviate disappointment and boost the metabolism, a dozen banks, including Goldman Sachs Group, Wachovia Securities and Morgan Stanley , banded together to have a single blowout night at the Boca Resort ballroom. Seafood and drink were abundant. Many recalled even bigger glory days before the 1998 Russian debt crisis took a big bite out of all sorts of bond sectors. Good times were had.

Then the band Barenaked Ladies took the stage, a group known for well-crafted harmony pop and, as conferees learned, sharp observational humor. The bankers and clients, name tags still affixed, exhibited the mishmash of endearing behavior often seen when a major-label act plays for a crowd of white-collar professionals. Some swayed and sang along. One guy held up his lighter. Others held up the modern version of the concert lighter, the cellphone camera. And, of course, some sat in back and BlackBerried.

On stage, BNL rocked and spared no rim-shot: They joked that CMSA's membership had chosen Boca so that they could pick out retirement homes. They referred to one firm as "Bare Naked Stearns" and asked audience members if they were still accidentally writing the year 2005 on their $2 billion checks.

They ended the show with their sing-along classic: "If I had a Million Dollars." This crowd, which helped underwrite almost $160 billion in bonds last year, probably had some good ideas

I've never seen them as Hootie but I did see Darius play at Anika Sorenstam's celebrity charity golf tournament in Sandestin. He played primarily his solo stuff with some Hootie mixed in.

I may have had one more martini than necessary tonight, but eventually led me to think of this post and say “time to crank up some Hootie”.

Let Her Cry is blasting right now. Don't care for those who don’t love this band.

I wish I would have seen BNL before Steven Page left. Enjoy them, but not the same.

Having seen them before and after...I actually like them better without. A lot more fun and upbeat banter (plus I LOVE their choreographed dance to pop medleys they do every year now) and the drummer is actually quite a good secondary singer.

How do they do with songs I consider “Steven Page songs” like Brian Wilson, Break your heart and Good boy?

Of those the only one I can recall them playing is Brian Wilson and they just have Ed sing the majority with Tyler (the new drummer) providing some backing vocals. Tyler also sings lead on some other Steven Page songs like Alcohol.
