How long did you date your significant other?....

Dated a year, engaged for 5. She was still in school and her field requires a masters or at least a 5th year. We've been married 6 years now.

Knew her for about 2 years before we started dating, although we had a few encounters, dated for about six months, engaged for a year and have been married for what seems like an eternity...

First date was July 4th, and were married August 30, labor day weekend in 1980. 37 years and going strong.

Got stood up on a date on St Patricks Day. Was near a co-worker who invited me to a different party, so I figured what the heck, my night just opened up. Met that night, dated 3 years then engaged for 1.5 years.

I think I knew she was the one for me the first "date" (after our initial drunken hook ups). Probably because she didn't speak English (at the time) and didn't expect to be pampered like a princess. I knew I'd better not lose that one.

Wait, Eddie Murphy told me about her. She was riding a zebra, wasn't she?

More like a Trabant.

Ha!
I love the Trabant! Not for the reason people normally love cars, because it stands as a beautiful exhibit of an economic system running in parallel with an almost scientifically indentical social sample that turned out Porsches, Mercedes, Beamers, etc.
The Trabant is like a touchstone on the folly of mankind.

dated for 2 years(hs sweethearts) engaged at 19, married at 20, 37 yrs in Sept. Like I told my son, "if you stand in front of 250 of your closest friends and say 'for better or worse', I'm gonna hold you to that."

9 years from met to married. 4 of those years barely count because we were in high school where we would break up during third period then be back together for 7th period. About 2.5 years before we married we had our daughter.

Before getting engaged? Never been married personally and wondered how long you lovebirds waited before popping the question.
Dated 6 years, engaged over a year and we've been married for over 10 years. We dated young so I'm assuming 6 years is too long for most 20 or 30 somethings.

My first husband and I met at FSU in the Fall of 1974 when I was beginning graduate school. We began dating in January,1975 and dated on/off for about 18 months before we decided to get married. The wedding was in December, 1976. We had just celebrated our 14th wedding anniversary three weeks prior to him being killed in an accident. I met my second husband in January, 1995. We did not start seeing each other until August of that year. We were married 2 years later and will celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary on 8/9. I got lucky twice

I am probably an outlier dated my wife for 5 months before I asked her to marry me, married 6 months later. I was playing rugby at FSU and trying to get my 2nd degree; she had already graduated and was working in Tally. My buddy on the Rugby team threw a party and someone who lived with him worked with my wife, so it ended up being a double party. August 31st is 21 years, 2 kids, tons of awesome times, a few bad/high stress times and can't wait for the next 21 years.

Dated 1 year, celebrated 20 years this past August 8th.

At the pinning ceremony for nursing, my wife pinned me. My 20ish something female classmates all went, "awe".
