Hurricane Harvey

Radio today said up to 500,000 alligators could be displaced north. Plus all the snakes and floating fire ant islands. No one ever thinks about these threats.

Upgraded to Cat 4. Went from maybe a tropical storm rain event to maybe a hurricane to maybe a Cat 3 to landfall as Cat 4 in very short time. Crazy.

Yeah this is pretty nuts. Reminds me of Charlie, where it veered dramatically off the projected path and blew up to a huge storm in hours leaving people in a world of hurt.

How many LR's are in the area of this? Good luck fellas.

If you've seen how crappy most of the houses are where this hurricane is going to hit, you would understand the concern. I went on a fishing trip in Rockport about 10 years ago and couldn't understand how most of the houses were standing.

Already prepping to be deployed for FEMA emergency response team in the next week or so, if needed. My family in Corpus has moved inland to San Antonio in preparation for the storm.

Be safe, buddy

We used to rent a condo just next to Port A , right by the condos at Port Royal. Those canals on the other side of the road had mostly empty lots back in the 90's, but no more. Bet there's big losses come tomorrow.

Rockport is going to take a huge hit too.

It's Texas. Heck, there's gators in the lakes around Dallas already.

As of 930am, it's so bad in Houston that the weather Channel lady is in clear weather, on a golf course with folks walking their dog.

(I know it's raining bad in other areas)

The problem will now be the rain. Was seeing some 35inch forecasts. One computer model had 60 inches. That is not 100 year or 1000 year but more biblical flooding.

Saw some footage of some kind of fire that broke out during the hurricane. The fire department was out there with ladder trucks trying to extinguish the blaze. The winds made that a difficult fight. I don't purport to know all of the details, but it crossed my mind whether it made any sense to "save" a building that would likely have serious wind and flood damage anyway. Hmmmm.

If the fire was caused by a broken gas main (just speculating), then they might have been trying to keep it from spreading. Still surprised by the fact they responded during the height of the storm.

Rockport and Aransas Pass are pretty much destroyed. Now have to watch the bayous. Franklins BBQ caught fire last night. Looks like the pit room was destroyed. Sad day in Texas.

I know this is in Texas, but the thought of this makes my skin crawl!

I had a feeling about Rockport. And Port A jetty must have been no help.
I can't wait to see pics of all the oil tar balls washed up on those beaches from the rigs offshore.

Looks like we're in line to snag some of the outer bands up here in DFW. Nothing major but some solid rain for a few hours. Ready to load up in Gary's RV and get out of town.

News now reporting 2 deaths. Very sad.

Yeah, I spoke too soon unfortunately. We all knew there would probably be some sadly

I am watching a reporter right now in Houston giving a report while they are driving around Houston who is saying the Sheriff's office is telling people to stay off the road. So of course what do they do? Drive on the roads. o_O

Don't know if this is the fire referenced but there's the gas meter.

Few bad things for Houston and Southeast Texas areas near rivers.

1. The here already flooding.
2. As the rain moves north, flooding along rivers will increase as runoff heads south.
3. Many in the area just went through catastrophic flooding last year.

Hopefully many of those folks elevated their homes and the damage will be reduced in those areas.

It's a mess. Our office will most likely flood by the end of the day. My business partner lives in Rosharon and he said every road in the area is already impassable and they are predicting 20" of more rain today alone. Never mind what falls tomorrow and Tuesday. Now predicting 55" totals for the 4-5 day period. They average less than 48" for a given year

So sorry for you and everyone else affected. Godspeed to all of you.

I live in Pearland which is south of Houston. 26" of rain so far. It's just an absolute disaster.
