How did your employer handle days you were closed due to Irma (whether closed to prepare for it, or closed afterwards due to power outage)? Alternatively, if you are a business owner, how are you/did you handle it with your employees? Paid day off? Employee use of vacation/personal/sick time?

Our company has 28 locations, including the corporate office, and employees at those locations that were closed due to the hurricane were all still paid for the day.

I was only off Monday. Well, really I worked all weekend plus Monday but officially we were closed. Everybody got paid for Monday and we reopened the office Tuesday.

Most of the money I make is through commission, so my September will be greatly hit. I am hoping to get some type of adjustment but i am not counting on it. I will just make it up doing what I do. Sell!!!!!

Told my employees to take care of preparations starting the Thursday before. Then asked them to begin working remote and doing what they could on Monday or Tuesday but made it clear it wasn't mandatory. Most of them were able to get some work done. They were all paid whether they worked or not.

Same with our company. Offices that were in more impacted areas were closed longer than we were here in Tallahassee.

What is this time off you speak of?

I worked extra before the storm to prepare boats for it and then moved into the marina after the storm passed and started the process of putting all the canvas back on and getting them back ready for service.

I did get use of two yachts in the deal though which was nice since power was out at my house. Saved me a hotel room.

We were given Friday, Monday and Tuesday off, but I worked Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday (remotely) and Tuesday. I’ll get paid for the office closures, but likely not the extra hours.
