I stopped drinking sodas back in April. Now, whenever I have caffeine too late in the afternoon/evening, it impacts my ability to get to sleep. I had a couple of cups of tea yesterday afternoon, then iced tea with dinner. I ended up laying in bed awake until I finally took some nyquil PM at around 2:30am to counter the caffeine and let me get to sleep around 3am. So, I'm operating on about 3.5 hours of sleep, and what's left of the nyquil PM drowsiness.

I'm sure the health benefits of cutting out soda are worth it, but I hate not sleeping - I just need to do better about remembering not to drink any iced tea or anything after probably 4pm.

Coffee is pretty much the only thing I drink that has caffeine, and of course it has a ton. I drink 16 oz travel mug between 545a-630am then a cup or two in the afternoon around 3-330p. I could doze off immediately after that afternoon caffeine. I don't have coffee later than that, but I doubt it would hurt my ability to fall asleep. Eating/drinking at night (especially alcohol) can disturb my sleep (not initially, but causes me to wake up intermittently), and is a habit I should cut back on.

I only feel the effects of caffeine when I don't have it in the morning. I could brush my teeth with espresso at night and be able to fall asleep immediately.

This is me too. I need it badly to wake up.

I used to be very sensitive to it as a kid. Couldn’t sleep if I had a Coke at or after lunch. Somewhere along the line that stopped though.

Now I can pummel a coffee at or after dinner and be asleep by 8:30 or 9, if need be.

Other than a Coke every 3 or 4 months or so, I haven't drank any caffeine in ~5 years.......I used to drink 4 or 5 Mt. Dews every day.

Other than the same Coke, I cut out sugar and carbonated drinks also.............powerade zero is my go to drinks.

Man, I never drank quite that much soda. Maybe one or two coke zeros per day. I still like iced tea, and the occasional "Monster Khaos" in the morning, but it's just gotten to where I really have to watch what I'm drinking when it gets later in the day. It makes me feel like such an old wuss!

I do like Powerade, but with that I feel like I've got to watch out how much salt I'm getting.

Caffeine is truly my worst vice. So far today, I had a large cup of coffee and some pre-workout, then a caffeine-based amino drink, then two more cups of coffee and three diet cokes at lunch. I sucked down a Monster at 4 PM. I'll start falling asleep between 8:30 and 9 PM tonight.

Alcohol can help offset the effects of caffiene at night ;^) Of course that leads to bad sleep also as you wake up four hours later unable to go back to sleep.

Seriously, I would like to be rid of the caffeine habit beyond two cups in the morning. But sometimes all day meetings that go through lunch require it, and then you are ragged out at the end of the day. A doctor friend told me that once you get used to coffee, the stimulant effect is no different that if you never drank it.
