I'm back

Sounds like a killer trip.
We had a good time.It was different than any other cruise we've been on in that it was predominantly old people and I'm talking 65+. If you were in your 40's, you were definitely grouped in the youngest 10%. The comment was made that there were more scooters and walkers than kids on board. That was true by a wide margin.

A cycling trip then, I take it?

That trip sounds like a lot of fun. Were you able to spend an ample amount of time at each stop?
Pretty much a full day at each. The shortest time on shore was in Panama because it took so long to get through the locks. The last stop was originally supposed to be in Mexico but for a reason known by my wife and not me, it was switched.

Hope you had a good time. What'd you have at Cal's?

Yep inquiring minds want to know. My wife and I split some cracked conch, snook and a local slipper lobster and everything was great. The good news is that even if the food really went downhill since I was there, the views are still amazing.

Unfortunately, we were in Roatan on Monday and Cal's was closed. Our driver took us there to show us what we missed.
He instead took us to a real locals joint. Not a tourist in site. They had four things on the menu; fish, conch, shrimp and spiny lobster tails. All were served with beans and rice and fried plantains. We ordered one of each and shared them. All were very good and really inexpensive. I'll post some pictures when I get home.

Definitely post some pics of the local joint. Any idea where it was?

Most of the best & most memorable meals I've had on the island were at places like that. It's just almost impossible to tell someone how to them.

It was in West Bay down the street from a beach resort. I don't have pictures of the restaurant but it was where all the the tour drivers and local workers went to eat. Looking on Google Earth, I think it's on Bananarama Drive. Dirt parking lot. Cooking area about the size of a small bedroom and a screened in, open air, picnic table seating area.

Nice. I haven't been to a lot of the little places in the West Bay area; when we first started going there it wasn't developed at all. I mean, at all. The only things on the entire stretch of beach were a small restaurant at the extreme eastern side, a couple of little rental cabins (that rented for something like $10 or $15 a night), beside it, and a private residence down near the western end of the beach. An old guy used to come out near the beach with a wheelbarrow carrying a cooler & snacks - that was pretty much the extent of the amenities.

It's kinda changed from back then.
