Is this a big hawk or small golden eagle?

I don't much about birds.

It's just a big hawk though, right?

This guy was in my yard just now, scoping out something. Hung around for 10-15 minutes before finally flying away. Too cool.

Yesterday, I was walking my dog around the lake in Southwood (in Tallahassee), and I definitely saw a bald eagle way up in a tree. That was a treat.

Red Shouldered Hawk. There’s about 90k of them in SouthWood (my new place) and Twin Lakes (my old place). I watched four of them battle one time which was pretty awesome and saw one steal a small bass by swooping down on anhingas which is not a “known” behavior at all.

We have some huge hawks that live in the trees around our lakehouse, and a couple of eagles that live in the woods/pastureland in the general area; they come eat at the lake pretty regularly.

We have several big hawks that live around the golf course. A couple of years ago we were waiting to tee off when one suddenly swooped in and took out another bird mid flight. It was pretty cool watching nature in action.

Saw one a few months ago swoop down & grab a good sized squirrel, which made a tremendous racket

I downloaded an app a few years ago called Merlin Bird ID. It's from Cornell. Pretty cool. Enter a few descriptions and it gives you possible matches.

I use the same app. I really like it. Pretty much always gives me the right bird in the match list. The kids think the audio of the birds call is a great feature.
