Jags can't catch a break

He didn't sign a contract. The Jags are bound by the injury waiver to negotiate in good faith, but it's not ideal for him.

Just read a tweet "Dante Fowler yet to sign his contract but he's in line for a four-year, $23.5m deal that's fully guaranteed. Injury shouldn't affect that."

Jax would be stupid to do more than pay the least they can to him good faith or not. A speed rusher with a bum wheel equals not a good investment.

So what's the hold up in signing? If you're a rookie what is there to negotiate?

Why on earth would he show up and practice without a signed contract in hand? Seem just plain dumb.

I thought this was a pretty standard practice now because the players are basically locked into a contract scale, but with saying that, I still don't think it's wise to get on that field without a contract that is signed.

I see that Denver 3rd round pick, TE Jeff Heuerman also has torn is ACL and is out for year, I didn't read anything about him signing a contract yet.

I am at a loss as to how players are so oft injured today compared to 15 years ago and I have some reasons as to why, but that's for another thread.

You were wrong on this one. 23.5 million guaranteed with no offset language.

I could be wrong about this, but i don't think they would be allowed to put any offset language in the contract. The injury waiver that Fowler signed before mini camp would most likely protect him from the Jags putting language into the contract like that. If i'm wrong about this please let me know.

I also never said the Jags wouldn't act in good faith and sign him to the contract he deserves, i said that the NFL is a cut throat business that is focused on winning. That's still the case

Not sure on the legalities of it. I only mentioned because the article did and also had the following: "It's a good look for the Jaguars, who could have taken contract discussions in a different, more contentious direction with Fowler on the shelf for a year." So I am guessing they could have put some sort of conditions to ensure he doesn't just get lazy and not rehab it and just take the money without even trying to get back on the field.
