Jax getting some love in Food & Wine

and they've put all but 2 Krispy Kremes out of business...friggin sad
Meh, I don't really care for either one. If want breakfast/coffee in Jax, I'd go to Metro Diner.

I've spent a good bit of time in Jax over the last three or so years, and I must say, it's really grown on me. It's come a long way from the grungy, smelly river city reputation it rightfully earned back in the 70s and 80s.

My father in law is a Metro Diner nut. He goes there at least 3 times a week. I like it but the wait is always so long.

Agree with Frank on Maple Street. They just opened one at Baymeadows and 295. We go to the Julington Creek location from time to time. Their coffee is awesome.

Oh wow.

That's the deepest cutting thing I've ever read here. Damn damn damn.

OK I was just made aware of this thread...so as Cartman would say...

Pretty nice places in Jax....and not a jort or meth lab in sight. Country coming to town.

1) No mention of the restaurant where you sit in a veritable San Diego Zoo of Dead stuffed animals while you eat llama steaks, python and fried shrimp? That’s the most Jacksonville of all Jacksonville restaurants (Clark’s Fish Camp I believe).

2) Jacksonville reminds you of Northern California? Lol....no. Just stop. Jacksonville is a slightly more sophisticated Daytona Beach.....slightly. There’s nothing at all that reminds me of Northern California and that’s coming from someone who doesn’t mind spending time in the greater Jax area as I can enjoy kitsch more than some.

Clarks is disgusting, I'll give you that. I'm surprised they are still open to be honest. Kids I went to school with use to work there and let's just say you don't want to hear the messed up stories I've heard about what they did to the food. I cringe anytime I hear someone mention Clarks as a possible place to go eat.

I thought Clark's was gone after Hurricane Matthew. That area is prone to flooding so I figured it was gone. Who knew.

It came back for a short time. Was shut down for roaches then reopened. That place will never die...unlike the 25,000 dead animal corpses there.

Only someone who's not from Jacksonville would think Clark's Fish Camp was representative of all things Jax.
Good to know that's your fav. I can now be assured that I won't run into you when you're next in town.

Your sarcasm detector is slightly amiss. Must be that red hat blocking the receptors.

A couple breakfast/brunch spots I like that are pretty small and many close around 2 -4 PM are:

Cool Moose Cafe in Riverside.
Just A Pinch Cafe (Hawaiian Fusion) in Fleming Island
Another Broken Egg
Derby on Park
Beach Diner

I will probably try B Street eats within the next couple weeks.

Just wound up at a little place called The Mitt Tex Mex Cafe. It's a little off the beaten path in the southpoint area. Pretty basic stuff but I was quite satisfied.

I've heard about that place and I've been wanting to try it. It's over by Coventry Park and the Acosta HQ isn't it?

It's tucked waaaay back there from what I've heard.

yeah, I mean I don't know that area at all. I was at the post office and just did a local search to see what was around and it had high ratings. You have to go to that part of salsbury /southpoint that's bounded/locked off by i95 and jtb. When you drive up to it, it's in a professional looking building like it should be a dr. office or something. I seriously thought I was in the wrong place, like maybe they had moved and the address hadn't been updated.
Fortunately they have some banners out front that make it easy to find once you're in the parking lot.

If you guys find yourself out at the beach and in the mood for some donuts try The Mini Bar.

Metro Diner opening its 50th location in Sarasota. Other than Maple Street, Metro is the way to go for breakfast.
