For the first time in school history, Florida State softball has a Top 3 Finalist for the TUCCI/NFCA Division I Freshman of the Year award as Jaysoni Beachum was named a finalist on Thursday afternoon. Oklahoma's Ella Parker and Florida's Keagan Rothrock were the other two finalists.

The ACC Freshman of the Year has put up unreal numbers in her freshman campaign and has put together one of the best freshman seasons in school history. The Tallahassee native leads the team with a .425 batting average, 15 home runs, 65 RBI, a .746 slugging percentage and a .516 on base percentage. Her 65 RBI are the most ever by a Florida State freshman and are the fourth-most RBI ever by a Florida State player in a single season. Beachum is one of just four players in Florida State history to hit 15 home runs and drive in 60 or more runs. She is on pace to break the freshmen school records for batting average, hit, slugging percentage, and on base percentage. Beachum also leads all freshmen in batting average, RBI and on base percentage.

Beachum has been terrific in the field this year as well as she has started 59 games at third base and has made just five errors in 161 chances. Beachum is one of just two players on Florida State's roster to play in every game this season.

Beachum was named a First Team All-ACC performer and also became just the third Florida State freshman to be named First Team All-Region and the first since 2004. Beachum was Softball America's Freshman of the Month in February, March and April as well.

The three finalists will travel to Oklahoma City on Tuesday, where the winner will be announced.
