Last Chance U

JJ Cosentino says hi.
Cosentino was at least a few stole hnotdogs from making that list. Neither a disaster nor noteworthy. No one expected much from him and he delivered just that.

Had he played for a rival I would really have enjoyed watching him get on the field more. Kinda reminds me of Brandon Bea from Independence.

He was a four-star recruit from a region with a rich QB history. Most people expected him to play a role in filling the void created by injuries/departures/graduation over the last three years.

Perhaps it was just me that had zero expectations of him, which he did not disappoint. In my world, JJ was not a bust.

Not really sure on the expectations, but when you get your chance and your performance is the worst (by a mile) from any FSU QB since Bobby arrived. It ain’t good.
I'm not sure why, but that's all I ever expected of him from the jump. Always felt his star rating was bogus and we signed only him to be a worst case insurance policy - not to actually compete for the starting job.

He graduated and stayed out of trouble (that I know of), so he achieved what I expected and I wish him the best.

If you're measuring purely by football standards, JJ was a complete bust. If you're measuring him as a student athlete, he was probably not a bust. He's not the first and he won't be the last.

To me, "bust" implies great expectations that were never met. See Malik Henry, DeAndre Johnson, Xavier Lee, etc.

Did we have great expectations for JJ, or was he more of an add-on?

He had a 4* by his name during recruiting (whether he deserved it or not) so there should be some reasonable expectations minimum. I think he'd be considered a bust even if he was a 3*. The QB position is chock full of busts.....in college and in the pros.

I don't think you have to have great expectations to be a bust. FSU isn't recruiting any quarterback they don't think at least can play at this level in some capacity. JJ could not. Not as a bridge, a stopgap or even an emergency. He might not have been recruited to be a star, but he definitely was not recruited to be of absolutely no use at the position.

That's a bust. It happens.

The kind of "not a bust" you're describing is Sean Macguire. 3-star, was never expected to be more than a stop-gap or emergency. And he functioned as such, and held down the fort decently well when he had to. Not great, but contributed up to what could be expected, and kept us in enough games.

There's no way that JJ was recruited to be sub-sub-sub-Maguire, and that's what he was. That's what walk-ons are for.
