LATE REPORT

As was expected, Jimbo Fisher named Everett Golson the starting quarterback for FSU's home opener against Texas State on Saturday. Fisher opened by saying he was pleased with practice and was then asked about naming a starter. He joked a little to create an inkling of suspense and eventually named Golson as Jameis Winston's successor.

Fisher said he goes through a number of progressions, too many to name by his account, when it comes to selecting a starting quarterback. He said both Golson and runner-up Sean Maguire handled the news "like you'd expect."

"With where we're at right now and the things [Golson] did, it's what's best for our team at this particular time," Fisher said. "We may need both guys throughout the year. But I am very pleased. It was a tougher decision because of how well they were playing not...things they weren't doing."

Installing Golson is the latest step in developing the Seminoles' new look offense. The team returned tailback Dalvin Cook last week after he was cleared in a misdemeanor battery case. Fisher said the offensive line appears to be taking shape and the team now has a full selection of healthy receivers.

We'll have more on this, including video from Fisher's post-practice interview among other things.

Until then. Goodbye for now.

EARLY REPORT

By now, you've most likely heard Jimbo Fisher will meet with the media today, which could lead to the impending announcement of naming a starting quarterback. Fisher's lone press obligation was slated for his 1 p.m. press conference. Afterward, the school said he would speak with media after Monday's practice. We should get him around 6 p.m. or so.

So who will be the starter against Texas State? Nobody knows although Everett Golson was at quarterback when the offense transitioned into special teams during a drill. Golson was there for about three or four walkthroughs. Funny anecdote from those drills. Fisher was really intense when it came to a player missing an assignment. He wasn't happy and his voice boomed throughout the complex. At one point, his voice was louder than the Marching Chiefs practicing next door. (and for those wondering, the band was playing 'We Are The Champions' by Queen. Read into that what you will.)

DB Tarvarus McFadden, WR George Campbell and LB Sh'Mar Kilby-Lane were all practicing today in full pads.

DE Chris Casher was also dressed in full pads too. He looked pretty fluid during drills and was able to move without any hint of discomfort.

Roderick Johnson, Kareem Are, Corey Martinez, Wilson Bell and Brock Ruble took first team reps on the offensive line. Alec Eberle, who was working with the first team at center, was not dressed in pads but did do some drills. He served as a faux tight end next to Ruble. Maybe it was a way for him to stay fresh.

OL Chad Mavety and WR Nyqwan Murray were also out.

RB Jonathan Vickers was in a blue, non-contact jersey. In other tailback-related items, Dalvin Cook looked sharp in drills. After completing one drill, he flexed a little bit and had a grin on his face.

The Jaguars were the only pro team at practice.

We'll have more later as we're also supposed to speak with some players to go with Jimbo.

Until next time. Goodbye for now.
