For those that have been. I am looking for some family friendly things to do in either Lima or Cusco.

-We already plan to hit the water fountain park in Lima. But looking for 1 to 2 other things to do while there.

Lima is your typical huge latin American city. Are you staying in Miraflores? I used to live in San Isidro- next to the LIma Golf Club. The Plaza de Armas (main square) is real cool. The Museo de Larco has, I think, the largest collection of pre-Colombian pottery and gold (there is a room full or erotic pottery, so your kids may start asking questions) and there is a Gold Museum that has so much gold it's blinding. Miraflores is pretty safe to walk around. Barranco is more of a music and entertainment area. San Isidro is business.

Cuzco is cool, but still pretty small and rustic. I'd just walk around and enjoy the culture. Be aware that the altitude hits you pretty hard there.

My daughter went there for spring break and they had some kind of bird sanctuary with trained condors.

Machu Picchu IS the Incas, you knucklehead.

No kidding. It's funny, when I lived there it was some pretty tough times. Sendero was waging war in the city. You had no imported goods. Now. It's a different place

The coke there is pure as the driven snow. Take a few days and really bond with the fam. Sleep is for the weak.

Give a report and share some pics when you get back. Machu Picchu is on my unfulfilled "bucket list" and my cousins went about a decade ago and loved it, but I heard they really limit your access to the site now kind of like Tulum.

Yep staying in Miraflores, I think I'll skip the xxx pottery but the Gold one sounds cool.

I am worried about the altitude hopefully we get over it quickly.

If you can break away from the family one night, check out Tequila Rock near Parque Kennedy in Miraflores :) You can go while everyone else is asleep!

On a more serious note... go to the buffet lunch at Mangos in Larco Mar to sample a variety of Peruvian cuisine. There are many great restaurants in Lima to try, and even though Mangos is a bit touristy the buffet lunch is great and you can eat on the balcony overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Another good restaurant in Miraflores is Bruja de Cachiches. Excellent Peruvian cuisine in an interesting setting. Amaz is another restaurant featuring cuisine of the Peruvian jungles east of the Andes. Delicious food and some very interesting Pisco drinks.

There is an "indian" market just east of Parque Kennedy in Lima worth checking out, but if you are going to Cuzco you'll find a bigger one there and everything will be cheaper. Remember never pay the "sticker price", bump them down at least 10 - 20%, its expected.

Cuzco is a great town, I really love it just to walk around, shopping and exploring.... there are several really good restaurants in the Plaza de Armas but I don't recall their names at the moment. Enjoy some coca tea (mate de coca) almost everywhere you go to help with the effects of the altitude. Cuzco is at about 11,000 feet IIRC.

One thing to remember about Lima is that it never rains and the winter is extremely dreary. The joke is that Lima was the Incans last revenge. However the food there is exceptional. Typical food is pollo ala brasa (rotisserie chicken), ceviche of all different types, lomo saltado. Then there is Chinese influenced chaufa places.

True. The guys that had the best cars and the prettiest girls in Lima were the Marines -- was always a running joke.

Where's a good place to catch the Seminole game in Machu Picchu? Any good bars?
Only place near Machu Picchu to catch a game would be in Cuzco. Machu Picchu is just the Incan ruins and sadly the Incans had neither TVs nor streaming video capability :/

There's a bar in Cuzco called Paddy's, it's the corner of the town square, they're your best shot but chances are you'll be out of luck. I was there the night of the FSU-scum game in 2013, they couldn't pull down the game so had to follow it on a stat tracker app.

Due to the altitude, I've heard Machu Pichu is a pretty good hike.
The 4 day hike is awesome. Day 2 is tough if you get altitude sickness but if you don't, it's pretty amazing.

It was too dangerous to do the hick when I lived in Peru. My junior class took a class trip Cuzco, that was a ton of fun. 15 years old, drinking Cuzquena in the altitude after sucking on coca all day....crazy stuff.

If you have a chance, try to squeeze in the Nazca lines.
