More Testing is a bs

Please enlighten us what the issue is. Further, Tigity for head coach, trainer and medical staff.
That someone is not getting them the allotment that they need but is available. TMH has accurate 2 hour testing , Ya telling m FSU can not manage to get one/. If they can not get that together sit out the season. Simple

That is my point. Testing is bull$&@. The only thing that will keep us safe is living in isolation. If you choose to play football you increase your risk of getting infected.

if you had a accurate instant test you could control an outbreak better. That test just doesn’t exist

This is silly. Testing doesn’t PREVENT spread, but it helps identifying people who have the virus and could spread it. FSU’s lab can return results in 24 hours. Is it perfect no, is it as good as instant results, no, but it’s better than not testing, especially when so many people are asymptomatic. Not sure why football incases your risk of getting it. Not sure there hav bee many cases of infection through sports competition of players within some type of prevention protocols. Haven’t heard of any in NBA, soccer in US and around the world, or even MLB where teams like Marlins and Cards had infected players and as far as I know, their opponents did not contract the virus from them in games. Even full contact sports like boxing, MMA and while not a sport still relevant wrestling, and these people don’t all live in a bubble or isolation. NBA and maybe MLS are the only ones who created some type of bubble for their leagues.

The more people you have contact with the higher the risk. So 84 scholarships plus walk ons and staff increases risk no doubt.

Are the big 10 medical experts right or the Acc? This is a moving target no one knows sh$& because they are still trying to understand the virus. Wasn’t the virus going away in the summer.

Never heard of anyone dying from those.
However, an asymptomatic Covid positive if not detected in a timely fashion and dealt with accordingly has the real possibility of spreading it to someone who could die which is why we have 160000 plus deaths in a matter of 6 months.

wait, you’ve never heard of someone dying from a broken back...? How about CTE...? I think one thing we can all agree on, is that there are certain risks with doing anything. There are certainly precautions one can take on anything, like TESTING for a virus that has killed people to prevent the spread. The test sucks btw, had one taken Tuesday here in Tallahassee and they gave me my results in 20 min. I’m sure FSU has the same luxury if not better.

You know what would be interesting is to get the figures of unrelated Covid deaths this year to see how much better every other illness has declined so much. Should make you wonder unless you’re a sheep.
Im a type 1 diabetic...have been for 37+ years.
I take very good care of myself for the most part.
If I was too die from Covid I guess your theory would be I was a diabetic and that probably was the cause.
Makes sense to me but, hell Im just a sheep what do I know.

Until we get a vaccine this crap continues....
I e-mailed the White House of a Fireball/Vodka vaccine and I'm still awaiting word...... I must have a dead cell phone.

No my point is living in the covid era comes with a risk. Each person can decide if they want to take that risk and how much they risk. Playing football with 100 people around is risky because of the potential exposure. These grown a&@ men had a choice to participate. Don’t bitch if you decide to take a risk and get infected.

Fair enough

You also risk getting a concussion, a torn ACL, broken back, and a litany of other serious health issues. At what point do we just ban football all together? It’s just too dangerous*

ban bread as it’s a very unhealthy carb, maybe alcohol again since it’s long term impacts your liver, how about sugar?

With all due respect @iraschoffel @CoreyClark and @Dot Com what will weekly or even 3 days a week testing accomplish? Rapid daily accurate testing is the only thing that will remove the risk of opting in. Accurate rapid test do not exist therefore what is the administration and coaching staff suppose to do? Playing is a choice for every player. Each player (adult) should weigh his risk and decide if he wants to play. If it is to risky to play in the individuals opinion opt out. Each player assumes the risk of exposure if they play just as if they go to Publix.

It isn’t just the choice of the player. It is the duty of the school to make sure the players are safe. Not just that, there is an enormous risk of litigation if they don’t adequately protect the athletes. The players shouldn’t have to assume the risk of exposure you speak of. Publix requires masks and social distancing... protections that can’t happen on a football field.

Tuberculosis killed 1.5 million people worldwide in 2019.

Flu hospitalized a million people and killed 80K in the US in 2018.

Anyone bat an eye about that? I think anyone would question the total number of actual deaths from covid. A more interesting question would be, if the media didnt tell you about Covid, would you even know about it, much less care?

I just think this is some BS that is going down because its an election year.

It must be an election year in every country in the world. All media spun BS...across the globe. Funny that other countries can contain this and limit the death rate. Yet this is airborne illness is on track to be the biggest causes of death in US if it continues at the current rate—more than heart disease and cancer. It is no wonder that we are the laughing stock of the world with how we have botched this. The stats speak for themself.

Too many people are starting with their conclusion, that they want to watch college football, and coming up with justifications as they go along. Which apparently includes conspiracy theories in which the global media and global scientific communities have come together to sensationalize a virus in order, amidst catastrophic economic damage that also affects them directly, to marginally influence an election in one country; and, in the mind of at least one poster, to “destroy football”. Yes, we’ve all been victim of a massive plot to make a sport go away.

I don’t know what will have to give for people to start snapping back to reality but I’m kind of afraid to find out. We should be starting with the proposition that we ought to do what is ethically proper by our student-athletes, and working toward a conclusion from there.

That is the problem. The expectation that FSU can protect the student athlete from any and all potential exposure is an impossible task. If the players and families expect this they need to opt out.

How did DJ get Covid? Who gave it to him? The answer doesn’t exist. No one will ever know the answer to this not even the experts.

No one is suggesting the school is responsible for protecting them from all potential exposure. That is impossible. But there is a very broad spectrum between mitigating all possible exposure and doing absolutely nothing. Much better to be closer to the former than the latter. I cannot fathom why anyone would believe otherwise.

Just because something isn’t 100% effective doesn’t make it pointless. It’s called harm reduction. And it’s not just about the players. Yes, they’re likely to be fine, and their safety is important. But they also interact with coaches, most of whom are in their 40s or 50s. They’re interacting with medical staff, with faculty, potentially. They’re interacting with other students, who maybe live at home, with older parents or grandparents. It’s as much about preventing spread as it is their personal safety.

I never said they shouldn’t do things to try to reduce the spread. I absolutely agree that the school should do what it believes will minimize the risk of harm to the student athletes. From what I see they are doing this. The situation is fluid and what is right today may change tomorrow.
I have a problem with a player complaining on social media about the administration when he made a voluntary decision to play football in the middle of a pandemic. He had to realize that playing football would increase the risk of exposure. Again if he believes the risk of potential exposure is to high for his liking opt out like Briggs’s and Chatman did.

it's a hard disease for Type 1's like yourself. It is the primary underlying condition for people that have had their lives taken by COVID under the age of 60.

Nearly 9 out of 10 COVID deaths are over age 60. The database that USA Today posted on Florida medical examiners is quite an eye-opener. It dates back to May but in the nearly 2,000 cases exhibited the co-morbidities were extensive.

CMN can let the players know that their test results belong to them. As such, if they want to make them public, it should be their choice.
HIPAA is a Federal law.
Thank you for that legal clarification. I was very concerned until I read your post. Thank you for sharing!
