@NYC_Nole_2 's great thread about under appreciating Matt Frier and some of the responses got me remembering some Noles, by position, of the past that we may not have fully appreciated when they suited up in Garnet and Gold. I'll offer these nominees up for the "most under appreciated at their position" to begin the discussion:

TE: Jim Tyson (some of the records broken by O'Leary were held by him)

OL: Lewis Tyre (held the record for the most starts at FSU until McMahon; started every game from his Fr year at OG from 1992-95, including our first NC, 49 games in all; consensus AA HM)

RB: Tom Bailey (avg 4.5 y/c for his short 3 year career; was the play action RB that made the passes to Sellers, Dawson and Smith so effective)

QB: Rick Stockstill (under appreciated coming out of small Fernandina HS, he led us to our second OB appearance and first Top 5 ranking with signature back-to-back wins over Nebraska & Pitt, then fu and LSU.)

FB: Marion Butts (became All Pro at San Diego as a RB after averaging <3 carries/game while at FSU)

DB: Martin Mayhew (this is the "other FSU CB" who played in the shadow of Deion his whole career)

LB: Dale McCullers (holds the FSU record for most tackles in a game, 29; held career TT for several years)

DE: David Warren (starter on the '99 NC squad who played in the shadow of Jamal Reynolds)

DT: Eddie Goldman (left before he could accumulate the national awards he would likely win)

It's the off season, let the debate begin. :D
