Sitting in a hotel bar in DC having a final glass of bourbon. 2 more meetings tomorrow and a final flight home.

Chicago to Phoenix to Houston to Nashville to D.C. and then finally back home to Chicago.

Exhausting.

Next week is a day trip to Cincy on Monday and then off to Maui for 10 days on Wednesday!

Oh yeah? This was a week I had back in Oct. San Diego, LA, Lake Tahoe, San Jose, Portland, Seattle, Salt Lake City, Denver. All in a rental car. And to top it all off, I got to finally relax one night, get pizza and a 6 pick at the hotel and watch the Boston College game. That sucked.

What kind of work, if I can ask?

Safe travels.

Man that is rough. I travel pretty much weekly but it is almost always same town for the whole week. Although next week is Bragg Sunday-Home Wed.-SD-Thurs-Home Sat-VA-Monday- Home in about 10 days

Next week I'm from Atlanta -> Pensacola -> Cincinnati -> Orlando -> Nashville -> Atlanta.

I've actually had worse weeks. These are all short flights.

The Dakotas are great for pheasant hunting. Beyond that, I can’t get too excited about either place. Prolonged periods of bitter cold. Limited conveniences, and no great health care or transportation centers anywhere nearby. I appreciate that rural can be great, at times, but both Dakotas in the Top 5????? Nah......

What hotel? Did you get to do any fun stuff in DC?
Not really. I'm at the Marriot Metro Center. Flight today has a strong likelihood of being cancelled so if that happens I will have some time this afternoon to get out and about.

Always wondered how they come up with some of these. Feels like they ignore some of the living conditions. After the snow starts in ND, it never goes away for figure on constant stacking from Nov until April. Meaning if you don't care about snow, then its not an issue, but most of the country doesn't care for that much winter. And the absurdly low temps. For 6+ months. SO yeah, if you ignore 6 months out of the year, I am sure its a great place to live all year.

Cant talk too much about the weather, but the people from MN, WI, ND, SD, IA, without a doubt, are the friendliest and most genuine people I have ever met.

The Dakotas have a pretty extreme climate. When we were up there in the summer time, it was 100 degrees and then it gets below 0 in the winter. I thought Wisconsin was great when I was there in the spring and summer. Had to go to Manitowoc in February and it was 3 degrees....realized why snowbirds leave in the winter.

Yep. The winters are so rough, perhaps some of the US population is okay with it, but I'd think the majority of people don't describe the following as ideal. Sub zero temps for months on end with no trees for days of travel and the wind. Its great in the hot summers (with no shade) but during winter the never ending ripping breeze.... Oh, and I was surprised that the softball fields in ND didn't have lights. Because all summer it stays light so late (9 or 10PM?), they don't need lights to play the late games. Then, during winter, you go to work and home in the dark. I just question how they end up top 5 as the environment is so extreme. That feels like such a huge part of living somewhere.

Nashville is great, though I live here and I might be biased. Preds are on a road trip, but if you happen to be here when they are in town, certainly do that.

The first week of April I have a pretty ridiculous travel schedule. Honolulu -> Seattle -> Juneau -> Ketchikan -> Sitka -> Seattle -> Honolulu. At least Hawaii is home, so it’s all worthwhile.

Thanks. Staying at the Four Seasons Wailea. Any advice for that general area would be great.

It all depends on what you like to do. The Wailea side of the island has more of the high end resorts, restaurants, etc. If you're into fine dining, there are a couple spots I really like. Morimoto has a restaurant inside the Andaz and your hotel has a Spago. I've been to both and they are top notch. There is a Merriman's location near Kapalua (other side of the island), that has one of the best sunset dining views in Hawaii. I haven't been to Mama's Fish House yet, but people seem to love it.

There are plenty of amazing beaches all around your hotel, and I'm sure the concierge will be able to give you lots more recommendations as well. If you want to do the Sunrise at Haleakala, just be aware you need to book a reservation now. If you've already done the Road to Hana on a previous trip, I would skip it. I did it once, but don't feel the need to do it again.

Feel free to reach out with any questions; joshstephens75 at gmail dot com

just curious, what makes someone from MN more genuine that someone from NJ?
how are you defining and applying that term?

just asking because i've found some folks from states known for southern hospitality to be anything but genuine.

You can't even pump your own gas in NJ, that's not genuine. And to your second point, bless your heart.

My heart doesn't need any blessing nor does pumping my own gas tell me anything about the people that live in a state. Your post basically does nothing but point your inability to answer the question directly.

I'd say folks from any given state are no more or less good, bad, genuine, or disingenuous than any other state. They're all humans with the same flaws disguised differently.

Are you seriously trying to argue that I haven't found the people from those states to be friendly? Im not even sure what your argument is. If you haven't noticed differences in people from different parts of the country, good and bad, then I don't know what to tell you.

And the bless your heart part, I was actually agreeing with you.
