Napleton Infinity

Won't be selling many of them after that stellar PR move.

Crappy move, for sure, but it won't hurt long. A few extra courtesy cars to the big-wigs at FSU, or their wives or children, and all will be forgotten in due time. It's not like many kids who park their cars on campus will soon be buying an Infiniti. You know how things work in Tallahassee.

They still claim they had permission. As much money and vehicles that they give to the school, I'm sure they probably did at least from someone.

I suspect this is true. Would take some mighty big stones to do this with zero prior inquiry. But who knows?

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if they called some big wig at FSU that they give cars to or that gets a great deal and that person said sure go ahead Jimmy Joe, we go way back and you write a pretty big check every year. Then the word got out and people ran for cover.

Typical social media driven outrage of the day type of controversy. You'll never hear of this again in a week. No doubt the dealership got permission but is covering for the person who gave them the permission due to the current firestorm. A true tempest in a teapot situation and I mean the pun. Would be a much more important story if many people would show up claiming that they weren't allowed to shelter their car somewhere and suffered substantial damage.

It's the principle of the thing. People are getting tired of the haves getting over on the have nots.

Can't tell from the reports...did these cars inconvenience anybody? I wonder if the media is badly disappointed that Irma didn't flatten every house in Leon County and is searching for something click-worthy.

I mean students who pay to go to school and park in those garages are the ones that brought it to everyone's attention so I would say yes it did.

If the students were forced to put their cars in harms way, I'd agree with you. If they were forced to park on Level 3 instead of Level 1, not so much. What are the facts?

From the pictures people were complaining when they could have just double parked all the Napleton cars. Our garage in Jupiter looked like a valet parking lot on the UES of New York.

If they took covered spots from those for whom they were intended, then yes. And they did.

I can only surmise that a ton of students went home because of the school closure. When all of the kids are "there," there is no extra room in the garages -- at all -- to accommodate a dealer's inventory. But the bottom-line point is that University resources should never be used by a private business in a way that provides zero benefit for FSU.

Napleton infiniti sucks. I will never do biz with them again. While this is beyond minor it shows their attitude

Yeah. I don't know all the ins and outs, but this is pretty much my take on the sitch...

They got ripped on FB. Not a good look for them at all.

They were going back and forth responding with people saying they had permission and thought it would be okay because they donate so much to FSU etc. Then an offical from FSU came in over the top and said you are not a current donor and did not have permission. They disappeared after that.

People started piling on after that.

How many cars was it? Per the pictures I saw on Facebook it only looked like maybe 10 cars at the most; while it still isn't right, it's not as big of a deal if that's the case. Does anyone have a count?

I thought it was their whole inventory?

Yeah, I don't know. There were a couple people defending them on FB saying they parked a very small number of inventory and that everyone was over reacting.

The pics showed a small amount, but that doesn't mean that was all they had in the garage.

I'm curious about the logistics of moving the whole inventory...how many vehicles, how many employees involved, how long did it take before the storm hit? Those car carriers only hold 8 vehicles each. How many of those did they use and go back and forth and back and forth? Sounds like a nightmare.

They run teams of 10 or twelve and shuttle them back in vans...

The fact that the dealership was told to remove their cars by the FSUPD legitimizes the shaming some IMO.

It sounds to me like they got permission from someone and then once it got found out by higher ups who didn't want to deal with the bad PR, they made them leave.

They admitted the person from whom they received permission had no authority to give it. If they are truly as connected as they claim to be, they should know who to call.

I think the dealership was ballsy, and wrong, to even ask for the accommodation. But I agree that it seems highly unlikely that they unilaterally transferred 80 cars to FSU without some semblance of purported approval. Seems plausible that the "approval" came from some low-level functionary who was then (correctly) overridden by a higher authority.
