NEW Footie Thread

I'm still trying to comprehend what the keeper was doing on that third goal? Horrible shot and placement just to the keepers right. It was like he wasn't paying attention. Certainly as unexpected a goal as van Persie has ever scored.

Hopefully Bambi is ok Netherlands need him.

Quarters draw tomorrow

At disneyworld this week for spring break. Yesterday I wear my Gunners shirt to Hollywood studios and when I am about to go into the single rider line for Aerosmith rockin roller coaster (30min+ wait) the kid next to me working the fast pass booth says, "Go Gunners!" To which I reciprocate.

He motions me over and gives me some special fast pass/rider exchange ticket good for 4 people.

Score!

This could be United's last CL cup tie in a long time.

I hope United can keep the aggregate to 0-6 or lower, so I can say at least United is more competitive than Barca.

Notice all of the smiley faces? I am laughing at myself so all you arseholes can stop laughing at me now!

Les,
Pretty funny.

United got the draw they did not want, however Liverpool and Arsenal will be cheering for Bayern to not mess around. United is 5 wins from auto CL birth at epl expense. Remote but possible Bayern better not take them too lightly it's all they have to play for.

Real a chance to exercise more German demons. Need to destroy borussia first leg as we know Pepe is abysmal away and maddeningly starts over Varane in CL.

Athletico Barcelona and Psg Chelsea should be close ties. Psg needs goals or Mourinho will make it a bore

Well, looks like I can get a head start on my errands this morning so I can watch the Madness all afternoon.

What a horrible way to spend your 1000th game.

As a Chelsea fan, this is glorious, 4-0 at the half over Arsenal.

Wenger never got out of bed today. Arsenal looked like they quit on him

The horror of this game will live with me forever. Reminiscent of our game at the Swamp back in the early 70s when Larry Smith had trouble coaxing the team to come out for the second half.

As thorough an Arse wiping (no pun intended) as I've ever seen. Chelsea were totally dominant.

Moanrinho will be unbearably snark towards Wenger now, and he's earned every justification for it.

As a Chelsea fan, big result today, but it's likely a matter of too-little-too-late. City will likely with the trophy when it's all said and done.

City has a much tougher schedule the rest of the way. Chelsea doesn't lose at home and City struggles on the road.

Rooney just scored from midfield!

That is an epic keeper fail what on earth was he doing! Solid strike and a nightmare for any keeper holy crap

Liverpool actually controls their destiny as well as they have both Chelsea and City at Anfield.

How much did Barcelona pay refs today? La liga has a major scandal unfolding

Re: What a Goal---CELEBRATION!

That vid was almost too choreographed, but hilarious. A lot of planning went into that, well done.

Pretty pleased that the coverage today, mostly, has been about the horror ref from El Classico who ruined the game. Aside from some Barca homers, but they're used to getting calls so i don't fault them for their ignorance.

Just to sum up as i ran through highlights again last night, here was the "objective ref" who had no result on the game......

Real got: a somewhat fortunate pk early second half, CR7 was easily fouled and embellished it, and he was on 18 heading into box. could have been on 18, but a bit lucky to get PK. So they go up 3-2. That was bit of fortune for Real.

Barca got:
2 handballs in the box uncalled, one with hands above head, one with hands out sideways

Pepe head stepped on after goal celebration by Busquets, no call.

Fabregas committs 3 bad fouls after his yellow, no 2nd yellow.

A red card on Ramos for grazing Neymar on a breakway, oh and Neymar was offsides! The play that changed the La Liga season should never have been. Ramos can earn a red with the best of them, but this was nothing close to a red, he actually tried to avoid Neymar and literally caressed his shin if he even touched him i'm not 100% sure, Neymar went down shot, PK given. PK right call in real time. Red, outrageous, you never ever see that for a touch foul plus a PK. Those calls for for killing the man and not hiding it. Game was over after red but ref needed to help out more.

Bale kicked in the box, no play on ball. no call.

Iniesta draws a PK, for losing the ball and then getting fouled after he lost the ball. I actually had to watch this several times because i couldn't find a foul with the ball. There wasn't one, as soft a PK as you'll ever find.

SO there you have it. La Liga. Totally legit. No reason to watch that clown show anymore, Mexico has better refs. A shame.

Big week in England, several make up games this week, if only Southampton hadn't choked, Tottenham with a huge 3 points. We'll see if Everton can get a streak going vs bad teams.

Arsenal response should be interesting.

Manchester Darby tomorrow good stuff. City can begin to get the dagger in for United to miss Europe all together but it's not over yet

C'mon Devils...Keep the momentum going!

Well, that was certainly a disappointing effort by United. Hopefully Arsenal can summon some fortitude and at least hold City to a point at home.

Everton first away win 3 months! Momentum building.

Ff through derby, well done City

In 10 short months, City has become the dominant side for Manchurians: better club, better owner, better manager, better stadium, ad nauseum. Gotta give the devil his due--when it counts, they pretty much come out on top. Not Bayern Munich, to be sure, but who the hell else is these days?

Everton has Arsenal in its sights. This could be the end of Wenger. Would be ironic to finally win some silverware (FA Cup) and miss out on the champions league in the same year.

Arsenal's schedule is pretty soft after Saturday's match against City. They should finish 4th fairly easily (and may with some luck even finish 3rd).

Everton actually has at Fulham then home to Arsenal. If Everton win both they should take over goal difference and go into 4th.
Long way to go but Everton has bottom table away games left and Arsenal looks done.
Wenger definitely won't survive if they miss CL

Wow, what delicious games thus far today. The ending of the Brom/Cardiff match was scintillating, and John Terry's own goal gives CP a win over the Blues. Somehow, miraculously, if The Arsenal can somehow top Citeh today (speaking of miracles
laugh.r191677.gif
) then they're right back in the mix. COYG!!

And to give the devil his due, Moanrinho showed a little class today. The handshake and hug he gave Pulis after the final whistle appeared genuine.

What perfect timing to switch over to the WB/Cardiff match. I almost left just as West Brom scored in the 93rd. Think Solskjaer got a littler Fergie time? Why didn't WB just pull back and control the ball when they had the 4 on 1 after they scored?

Well, The Arsenal has to put all its eggs into the FA Cup basket now. All that match did was give hope to Pool and Chelsea. As it is, those 2 games in hand make me thing Citeh wins it.

Everton were poor but they continued the win streak. Everton wins final 6, not likely, they steal champions league spot. Or just win next few starting with Arsenal at home, almost a champions league qualifier. 4 Pts back with a game in hand.

Liverpool truly an amazing story. In two weeks City visits Anfield what a game that will be.

United 6 back of Everton for only Europa spot, to avoid mass exodus this summer. Can see a van Persie staying for just league play

Posted from wireless.rivals.com

CL-caliber players view the Europa as a penalty not a prize. Europa league won't keep RVP, IMO. That is a tournament for teams from Belarus and Kazakhstan.

Les, u might be right but if united bring in a big time coach and sign some top guys willing to rebuild a year I think a few stay even if only Europa.

That being said maybe United will need to sell to offset financial losses so u might be right. Hopefully we find out

I'd be shocked if Bambi stayed around for next season without CL match days! We shall see though. I will most likely miss most or all of the match as I got a Jury Duty summons for tomorrow. Now before you ask, I did get a continuance for this 6 months ago and when calling this morning they would not push it out again as I am only allowed that 1 time. If I get picked I will just say something about gun rights or killing them all and letting God sort them out and get an early release!

OK, props to United for their best performance of the year. With Schweinsteiger and Xavi out for the next match, you can't say they don't have a puncher's chance.

If only Welbeck...........

Dangerous play is called as often as palming or traveling, oh well.

Bayern dominated in the first half, I'm pleased at the outcome, but giving up that away goal really hurts. Bayern, IMO, is still the best team in Europe, and to not get blown out at home after losing 3-0 games to rivals City and Liverpool was a good result.

United is fighting for their Euro lives right now, and if they can pull this off, like Chelsea did a few years ago, they would bump that 4th place EPL team out.

At Robben's age, he can still really fly.

Moyes should be fired for not playing Kagawa from the start with van Pansy out.

What about those scumbags south of the border not releasing US players for the friendly coming up?

Mexican football, no comment needed.

I was surprised How average Munich looked and how hard United played. Aside from Robben a pretty pedestrian attach by the German all star team. Welbeck with two horror shows, that chip might have ended up a throw in had Neuer not caught it what was that! Fellini continues to play himself off the Belgian starting team.
Still expect Bayern to crush at home but not a good display yesterday so United has hope, and the top 4 in England nervous.

Atletico didn't play very well either but they also got their away result. Packed it in and frustrated Barca. That tie suddenly must see tv second leg. I figured Atletico depth would hurt them by now but only a month left and they still refuse to fold.

real needs huge home win today.
Psg just needs a win IMHO

And Pep, stop overthinking it, a man on each post on corners is a good thing.
Posted from wireless.rivals.com

All credit to Moyes and manu! A clear example of how tactics can influence a match. It was pretty clear that manu was going to park the bus(Chelsea style) and look to hit on the break. Pep chose to field an XI without a striker and that fed right into the manu game plan. I am still not quite sure he waited so long to bring on Mandzukic but when he did it changed things alot! Agree with Koot on the man on each post! Freaking football 101 stuff and the manu goal would not have happened if they had been manned. I wonder what the tabloids would be saying had Robben been doing the Rooney dive? LOL! How in the hell does Basti go off when Valencia stays on after a ten times worse foul....you know a foul with ACTUAL contact!? All in all we got the away goal and the next match is in Munich! BUT I did feel like this match would be closer than most thought.

Rooneys dive was awful agreed unjust. It seems Schweinsteiger gets unjust suspensions each late Champions run. Def many worse fouls in that game.

In the end I can't see Munich making ancient Ferdinand and slow Vidic look 25 again.
