Named him Bjorn after our great defensive end. Hands full with the new pup but couldn't be more excited. Getting him and my 11 year old JRT to play nice is a serious challenge.

I think Mr. Roberts and a couple other LR posters have GSDs, so I wanted to share.

German Shepherds are awesome dogs. That's a really cute pup. Werner might have been the more appropriate name, but Bjorn does give you the ability to put him into a Fila track suit and slip a headband on.

Great looking pup.

Mine's almost 2 now. I got him as a rescue at around 4 months. He looks to be from a working line. Straight back, etc. Almost 100 pounds. Huge dog.

Good looking dog Crooked!

As for the name, its multi-purpose. Its for Werner, its the main characters son on one of my favorite shows (Vikings), and its Scandinavian/Germanic which pays homage to my last GSD, Odin.

Awesome looking pup!! I didn't grow up with German Shepherds but it's a breed that has grown on me. Almost two summers ago, my wife and I rescued a German Shepherd/Black Lab mixed pup who we thought was a dud at first but she turned out to be an absolute nut. She has pretty obvious traits of both breeds and, even though she's a bit skittish, she's been a cool dog.

Dogs have a way of surprising us. This puppy is nothing like my last GSD.

Beautiful pup! Ours is approaching 6 years old now and I know that he'll start slowing down in a few years. Never thought I'd miss those days.

Always wanted a German shepherd. Have had a few labs and have always loved them. Been thinking about getting a German shepherd, how are they with children? I have always heard they are easily trained. Would love to hear some opinions from you guys as there seems to be quite a few German shepherd owners here. Thanks guys

Mr. Roberts, I lost my first GSD about a year and a half ago at nearly 13. At 6, you have quite a few good years left, my guy didn't really slow down until 11 or so. Make sure you enjoy him now and don't worry so much about whata down the road, I made that mistake and never will again.
Semi, GSDs are the greatest animals on earth IMO. They are great with kids, loyal, extremely intelligent, strong, fearless, etc. Depending on where you get one, they can be strong willed but highly trained. I would recommend one to someone who has experience with dogs but not to a first time owner. Hope that helps!

As a dog lover and owner of many dogs over the years once I got my first GSD I have never turned back. I've raised three kids around them relied on them for protection and companionship and cried like a baby when I buried them. I've had 5 over the years my black/tan is 10 now and slowing down. There is no better family dog, as long as you have room for them they will light your life like no other animal.

Well said den. I buried my boy about a year and a half ago, bought a red maple and a tile for a stone. Its not easy because they find a way to really intertwine themselves in your life, they mark chapters in fact. There are days when I want to kill this new puppy but then he cocks his head in a certain way and it hits deep.
