I have it on in the background. I've watched a couple of the drills they are running.

I'll have to say, some of these look ridiculous and would leave me thinking a guy like D James and McFadden could only hurt their draft status by running them.

The only I would recommend they participate in is; the 40, standing long jump, vertical, and wonderlic (and only if you feel confident scoring well, would probably pass otherwise).

All the others are just basic drills that don't mean a thing IMO. This is where you would want to say to teams interested to, "watch the tape".

For guys at smaller schools or larger programs where they weren't All-Americans etc, it could play to your benefit; not seeing upside otherwise.

James at 4.48.....not bad at all.

He came out really low as well. he will probably do better in heat 2.

Finally something I agree with Bruce Feldman about.

Not sure why someone would recommend a DB not to do the 3 cone and shuttle run..

no kidding...4.7 for McFadden.....ekkk!

What do you think happened with McFadden this past year? He was definitely not the same player we saw two years ago. Not only did he look slower, he was out of position quite a bit.

I mean, it's been well documents.

The culture within the program was bad. No one was there to push him and making sure he was getting the most out the program and himself.

Starts with head coach him not being able to motivate his coaches (because it turns out he was a complete horses ass and dis-liked by every person at FSU admin) > coaches lose interest and confidence > therefore they can't can't motivate their players > players are left motivating themselves (as Jimbo put it, play for your NFL draft status) > which leads to bad culture and no leadership to be found anywhere, and guys like McFadden falling in between the cracks.

That is a recipe for guys like McFadden to not get better, not push themselves, lose confidence, and not even care.

Speed is speed....so the low 40 is crazy to me. All I can guess is that he didn't work with a professional after the season to get his time down by a few tenths of second. One would think you could take a 5 flat guy to a 4.8 and so forth. But who knows on that one.

Did you just troll me......that was a lot.

The main issue with McFadden is he really isn’t that good. His breakout season 2 years ago, he looked like garbage most of the time, but came up with a ton of interceptions, half of which were thrown right to him. He was out of position and got burned a lot that year as well. Those mistakes just got covered by the interception number.

I remember saying basically this to my cousin after that breakout season. I was talking about how bad McFadden was and how often he was out of position (having seen every game). My cousin a huge recruiting nerd and Texas fan saw the stats and knew the hype so he thought McFadden was an absolute stud...

The eye test....

McFadden thought the same thing.

I’m pretty sure he was a consensus five star coming out of HS. In Rivals he was the #2 CB and #13 overall player. Usually they don’t give out five stars unless the measurables coming out of HS are extraordinary so I don’t know what happened to him at FSU. He definitely never fully developed his skill set with the 40 speed being a case in point.

And 40 times are absolutely something that can be worked on and improved.

Well, we have seen this in our recent history as well. Let me take you on a journey back to the 2001 season.... Good solid recruit does well first season. Inept (or subpar) coaching staff gets ahold of a natural talent and then massages the good OUT of the player and their stats begin to fall. Sometimes when your system is no bueno, your results are also no bueno.

Marquez White got drafted, so I'm guessing McFadden will, as well. He just cost himself a ton of money. The NFL will give him a chance, but he'll have to earn his way to any big money. He's a Nole, so I wish him well. I never thought that he was very fast during his time at FSU. You don't need to be a blazer to have a good career in the NFL as a db, but you better have amazing technique.

I wish they made the players run the 40 in pads.

Maybe a move to FS if he gets on a team with great coaching as the complete clown show here didn't help. Should be able to add 10lbs to his frame with no problem.

Why bother? You change position of players that are physically gifted but have trouble handling assignments (review Bucky Brook's career for an example) - not a cornerback that runs like a defensive end.

I had bought into the hype. 40 time makes sense though after seeing it and then reading some analysis from others along with video. Once he was out of position and beat, it was over because of no make up speed.
