Seeing how often this place is referenced here, I just figured I'd look it up. When I was in school I ate here several times. I worked at Skydive Tallahassee for a good portion of my time in Tallahassee, and the Quincy Airport was just down the road, so we'd get steaks there after busy Saturdays when our pocket were flush with cash. It was also great because it was BYOB. Which kept the bills down, and the Natty Ice flowing.

Either way it's now The White Dog Plantation, and you can stay there. Looks pretty nice. May see if I can stay out there this fall.

What happened to the Nicholson Farmhouse

Unless NoScript blocked out the whole "food" section, it looks to me like they don't have any at all, with the exception of a Keurig in the rooms.

Did I miss it, or is it just a place for events and lodging?

If the latter, then it's a stretch to say "The Nicholson Farmhouse is back" when the only thing I ever went there for is definitely not back.

It just appears to be a bed and breakfast retreat now, (although it looks really nice) which also has event rentals for weddings and the like.

I didn't say it was a restaurant. They are back in business though.

Now it's BYOM, you can light a fire and grill a steak in the yard.

We'll just have to disagree on the semantics, but I'm still not sold. Consider this analogy: "Buffalo's on Tennessee [where I ate a stupid amount of wings on all-you-can-eat nights in the mid-90s] is back!"

Under further examination, it is revealed that Buffalo's has opened under new management, with new decor, and is now called Cypress.

I would concede that the same location is indeed serving food, but would have to still conclude that whatever Buffalo's once was and whatever Cypress is, the latter does not constitute the former being "back".

Further: have you actually verified that the owner will let you grill a steak in the yard? At risk of gossip, the rumors here consistently indicated that she was a vegetarian who would not entertain the idea of a meat-eating restaurant, and (though I may have missed it) I didn't see anything that affirmed on the site that you could use any of the facilities for your own cooking.

You really want to argue about semantics?

BYOM? Is that like BOFITC?
Seems so. In both cases, you do your own work to achieve the desired result with a nice atmosphere provided by others.
Yep, they have a very strange way of getting the fire started there now.

I missed that obviously. Oh well, I guess you can't bring the past back.

Excellent point. I guess it's been there since the early 1800s.

It is my preferred restaurant of choice after eating breakfast at Bagelheads, grabbing a drink at the Phyrst and an afternoon snack at Rodizio's.

MY TIME MACHINE WORKS!!!! I visit from 3/2015 kids. Sell your real estate in 2006/2007. Buy oil and gold (but sell by 2014). Buy Google and Dow spiders. You are welcome and I want rides in your jets and boats.

I swear.....some things never change. LR nitpicks. Nicholsons is a topic and Matt is unoriginal. (But still funny.)

Used to love driving up there and kicking back. It wasn't high end cuisine, but they offered a decent steak with a folksy and nice setting. Seems like the owner Paul was up there most nights making the rounds, super nice guy.

That's (Nicholson's) one of the few things I will miss about the greater "Tallahassee" area. And it's already gone so I won't miss it.

There's only a handful of things I will miss about Tallahassee. 1) Is its closeness to Apalachicola/St George, 2) it's close enough to act as a starting point for great weekend and 3 day trips to New Orleans, Orlando, Tampa, Biloxi, Destin, PCB, Pensacola, Clearwater/St Pete, Atlanta, Savannah, St Augustine and Dahlonega, 3) is it's relatively safe at least in my part, and 4) it's got a great park system for tennis, frisbee golf, softball and running trails. So I'll miss those four things, but restaurants? I can't think of single thing I'm fond enough of or is really unique to get nostalgic over. Momo's is decent. Tan's Asian cafe has some nice harder to get items. And MAYBE I'll get nostalgic for the sweet spiced tea at Samrat is my favorite iced tea anywhere on the planet so far. But that's it.

Meanwhile Nicholson's is worth getting nostalgic over. They had amazing dry aged steaks on par with the high end places yet nowhere near their price. The green boiled peanuts to start you off after you walked (or rode in the wagon!) up to the old plantation home really took you back in time. I never had a bad meal there and had many a fantastic first or third date their in college and shortly afterwards as did many FSU students I'm sure. All of that's worth getting nostalgic over.

Was dickin around on the old google looking for pics of their steak and stumbled upon their recipe for peanut butter pie. Looks easy enough (this is for 3 pies, so 1/3 the ingredients for 1) (jesus this feels like im on friggin pinterest)

Nicholson's Farmhouse Peanut Butter Pie

3 graham cracker pie crusts
1 stick butter, room temperature
3 - 8 oz. pkgs. Philadelphia Cream Cheese, room temperature
1 1/2 cups Jif Creamy Peanut Butter
3 cups Cool Whip
4 cups powdered sugar

Mix all of the above together and spread in pie crusts.

Topping:

1 cup milk chocolate chips
2/3 cup half & half

Combine chips and half & half. Melt in microwave. It will take approx. 5 min., stirring after 2 1/2 min. You want it to be slightly thick. Spread on pies.

Refrigerate pies.
