FSU sports information:
The No. 8 Florida State beach volleyball team concluded the East vs. West Tournament with a pair of losses to No. 1 UCLA and No. 2 LMU on Saturday. The Seminoles are now 14-3 this season with all losses coming to top-5 opponents.
It wrapped up an intense weekend which saw the Noles take on four top-20 teams, including the top two teams in the nation in back-to-back matches. The Seminoles proved competitive in the losses, despite the final tally.
Florida State suffered a sweep in Saturday’s first match against UCLA but put up a fight in throughout the order. FSU played the Bruins tight in the first set on flights but ultimately fell in straight sets on four of five courts. Carra Sassack and Bailey Higgins captured the first set on court four in a match that would turn into a three-set battle. The Bruins captured the second set by a slim 22-20 margin before downing the Noles in the third set.
The Seminoles then fell to #2 LMU 4-1. Audrey Koenig and Alexis Durish defeated the Lions on court one in straight sets to earn the Noles’ only point of the duel. Freshman Skylar Skrabanek and redshirt freshman Jordan Boulware engaged in a three-set thriller on court five. The pair of Noles fought hard, but ultimately dropped the contest 21-19, 19-21, 19-21.
FSU will be back in action next weekend as they travel to DeLand, Florida to play in the Stetson Beach Blast. The Seminoles will take on Florida Atlantic at 11:30 a.m. followed by Stetson at 2:00 p.m. on Friday and then Erskine College at 9:15 a.m. and Palm Beach Atlantic at 12:45 p.m. on Saturday.
