Making my Holland prediction look good.

If they can get out of the group. Chile will be tough on their home continent. All the "heart of a champion" cliches go out the window today as Spain has just given up. Should be 6-1 now.

And they have to be the worst team in the tournament for complaining about every little thing
You might be right, but I'll wait until I see Italy play first. Historically they are some diving, flopping, whining crybabies.
Point taken. Portugal is up there, too.

Now if Holland doesn't take it easy in the third game , they won't be out of rhythm going into the knockout stages like Euro 2008.

Netherlands. Holy Crap loved it! But it's first game they have to get hot round 2. Spain and they're awful diving draws their only goal love it. Haha

Spain chile will be massive.

Chile looks exhausted they aren't fit for a lot of reasons. 73rd minute lots time left.

Btw, Ghana is in trouble with these officials.

I agree offense is getting all the calls in the box so far. Bad news for many teams

Friggin brilliant! I think it was better than Ibra's goal vs England last year. The timing was spot on, and the pass was outrageous.

18-5 in terms of fouls committed, 18 for the Dutch and only 5 for Spain.

The PK was iffy, but closer than what others have been called. I agree with another poster, it's gonna get crazy with calls inside the 18.

With all the fire power that Spain has, they only started 1 forward yesterday, a forward who has been injured and has just as many caps with Brazil as he did for Spain coming into yesterday's match. Diego Costa was booed heavily everytime he touched the footie.

Buffon is out today for Italia and Casillas was out for Spain yesterday.

It couldn't have happened to a better group of scumbags, but Mexico got jobbed on 2 goals yesterday.

I think Soccernet misspelled van Gaal more than they spelled it correctly.

Brazil vs Spain in the round of 16 would be great. I can't believe that FIFA overlooked this, unless those corrupt bastards already penciled Spain in as the group winner.

Germany/Portugal must be another oversight, as this game is scheduled at noon EST. A 3:00 PM EST would draw a bigger US audience and it would be a perfect 7:00 PM Euro start time.

So if Costa Rica loses this game will they protest to FIFA to replay the game? :)

MLS product just scored on Uruguay.

Nevermind that's another player. Still, like I said Uruguay is in trouble in this group.

Down 2-1, not sure why Forlan would be taken off.

Uruguay could have used Suarez and his poaching just now.

There's a reason Uruguay had to go through a playoff to qualify.

It's a good thing for Uruguay that Brazil didn't have to qualify or Suarez would have the whole summer to recoup.

Uruguay is done. Nail in coffin.

I sure the hell didn't see this score line when the game started...Bravo Costa Rica

Costa Rica looked good today. Uruguay has dug themselves a big hole. They will be lucky to get out of the group.

Well, so far CONCACAF teams have looked good, and we won the qualifying group.

Hopefully the same will be said for Portugal

Somewhat, the difference is Portugal has more flair. And Portugal's MVP will act as the attacking center mid. We have to play exactly as we did against Nigeria. If we give them time, we'll have problems

I'm looking forward to getting Portugal in Manaus. These 2 Euro teams seem to already be gassing (or at least plodding) in the first half.

I am no expert but Italy and England seem to play a very cautious, lots of small passes back and forth, no big surges.

Surprised to see very little whining and flailing by Italy. England on the other hand are trying their best to get a call in the box.

Italy doesn't whine like Spain.

Uruguay is not done and Netherlands has done nothing. First games is helpful but meaningless if u don't do well after.

Italy over England 2-1 81! Love it but early

England are awful. Rooney's alleged corner kick that nearly sailed into the stands---BEHIND the freaking goal--made me wonder if this game was really on the level. 2 minutes later, Wilshere's pass to a wide open player (who just happened to invisible to the rest of the world) costs them possession.

When players of that caliber perform like that, thoughts of gambling and being on the take start to surface. And yes, I'm being serious.

Italy not whine?? That's their strategy. Uruguay is done, Italy and England will move on.

Was thinking the same thing of both of those (Rooney's corner and the pass that sailed out of bound)... England looked sluggish.

A lot of people are making a big deal of the weather. These counties should have done all their training in Tallahassee, Fl....that would have easily prepared them...lol.

Glad our last match was in Jax....

Watching the energy of this Japan side, I sure wouldn't want to play them in Manaus. These guys don't see to ever get tired; what they may lack on the technical side, they make up with pure hustle. They would've run England and Italy into the ground today.

Don't forget Johnson's lame attempt at crossing the ball.

Also, after Wilshere's pass to the 4th official, the Italian keeper sent a clear to absolutely no one that went out of bounds.

Where was Alex O-C? He had been playing good in the friendlies.

Manaus is far worse than Tallahassee if you can believe that. Manaus is like the worst, hottest and humid day ever, in Tally.

If I were a world cup team playing right now and could choose the cities I'd play in at this time of the year, I'd say Porto Alegre, Belo Horizonte, Sao Paulo, Cuiaba .....Manaus would be my last choice. It's on the Amazon. Cool place, but not one where you want to do sports.

I agree that Uruguay is not done, Spain lost 1-0 to Switzerland in their first game back in 2010 and I doubt that England advances, so sure, the first is helpful as long as you do well after and get results from the other group matches, much like Spain in 2010.

As far as the Netherlands not doing anything yet, I agree 100% (on paper), but disagree 110% (in reality). This isn't A Few Good Men where all they did was beat up on a weakling. They beat up the #1 team in the world and stockpiled their GD

Alot of experts picked Spain and Chile to advance out of the group, and even if Holland beats the Aussies, they could still finish 3rd if they lose to Chile and Spain beats Chile, and then the GD differential would have to be made up by Chile and Spain, and that could be a tall task if they beat up on Australia and then park 3 buses against Chile. This is also assuming that the Kangaroos go 0-3.

This is easily the best result for any team in the first 16 matches. Using Manch's probability projections, a Dutch win with a GD of +4 over Spain and Chile defeating the Down Unders, gives them a 98.6% chance of advancing to the knockout stages, and that my friend, is just a little more than just doing nothing!

Did you guys catch the instant spark that Didier Drogba provided the black Netherlands? I told my son that the average height of a Japanese player is 4' 2", and the Elephants could win by using the air, and sure enough CIV gets 2 goals in about 100 seconds on headballs. I am not sure why Japan kept insisting on kicking 50 yard boom balls in stoppage time when CIV had the height advantage. Drogba, at 6' 2", must have looked like Godzilla to the Japanese players when he came in. Drogba seemed a step behind his teammates, but his passing was decent and he still possesses a rifle of a shot.

ESPN was showing highlights of one of the games and Mike Tirico says something like "this is their first score".... Score? It's a friggin goal (I might be nitpicking, but that bugged the sh!t out of me).

Another thing that bugged the sh!t out of me is trying to listen to Ballack, Martinez and van Nistelrooy in the studio.
