My best friend went to school there. It's pretty crappy. I guess you could live in Merrillville, which is slightly better. Or you could live and Chicago and commute.

I live in Chicago and work in both Illinois and Indiana. I spend a ton of time over there. I can honestly say there is no where in Indiana I would consider living outside of the northern burbs of Indy. Crown Point/merriville are both dumps. Valpo may be worse than South Bend. Culver is a tiny town but at least there is a Great Lake there. That may be an option. Otherwise, Mew Buffalo to Benton Harbour Michigan??

Valpo is better than Merrillville. Lol. There's Hobart, Portage, Crown Point and Chesterton as well.

To the poster above, I'm thinking of moving back to Gary--Miller Beach to be exact.
